Book Description
Paul says For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance. (1 Thess. 1:5)Why are so many pulpits today void of effective evangelical gospel preaching, preachers of power and much assurance? Is the Holy Spirit totally at fault here? We dare not think so. Rather, the purpose of this book is to be a clear guide for preachers today, using the Scriptures to create a basis for persuasive evangelistic preaching. One of the primary needs in the effort of evangelistic preaching is to establish the relative place of the mind, the conscience, the emotions and the will in one's appeal. Many criticize proclamation evangelism as securing decisions by appeals largely emotional and generally void of any intellectual involvement. It is therefore necessary to establish the truth that true evangelistic preaching involves each of the elements of man's soul and not just his emotions. Through effective evangelism, the Holy Spirit touches each aspect of man's makeup and enables his decision for salvation, as is expounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The subject of this book is limited to one type of sermon... the evangelistic sermon. Four basic appeals in evangelistic preaching are expounded and organized in useful format. Actual sermon structure and delivery of the sermon will be much more obvious after the very foundation of an effective sermon is dealt with as spelled out in this book. Chapter One deals with Gospel preaching and its appeal to the intellect. Chapter Two discusses Gospel preaching and its relationship to the conscience. Chapter Three examines Gospel preaching's appeal to the emotions of man. Chapter Four scrutinizes the appeal of Gospel preaching to the will of man. In each chapter the writer gives a definition of the moral element dealt with in the study. Then the design of the preacher in dealing with that element is stated. Next the direction to be taken by the preacher is described. Finally, the writer demonstrates the use of appeals to man's moral elements by using examples of great evangelists of the past and present. The conclusion includes general observations and pragmatic applications of the subject. About the Author For sixty years this writer has preached as an international evangelistic preacher seeing thousands of souls persuaded to turn from sin and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He has a lifetime of confirmation of these truths presented and calls upon all ministers to return to Peitkos persuasive preaching of the Gospel.

Book Description
Michael Dudit, executive editor of Preaching Magazine, writes in the foreword that "the reader will find in this book a valuable discussion of what persuasion really is, what the Bible has to say about it, how it is modeled in the New Testament, and what role persuasion should and should not play in our own preaching in the twenty-first century. The author has provided solid biblical content and practical guidance that will be a powerful resource for preachers and church leaders. He writes with clarity and--dare I say it?--persuasive power. Book Description
How can we preach persuasively without huckstering, manipulating, or coercing people? Sadly, we are seeing the fall of many pastors not for reasons of sexual immorality, but the pursuit of pride and power. The skillful use of marketing methods creates celebrity pastors who become significant influencers in the evangelical church. The lure of success is seductive, turning pastors into hucksters and Christians into consumers. We need to heed the warnings of the New Testament about the pride of rhetoric and the pursuit of power. David Christensen carefully analyzes the biblical warnings of Paul about the temptations of rhetorical sophistry in the first-century church and applies them to pastoral ministry today. God calls preachers to be ethical and effective persuaders. David develops an ethical grid for pastoral persuasion using principles drawn from the Bible and social science along with practical illustrations from his years of ministry. He calls preachers to be ethical and effective persuaders by emphasizing the centrality of the word of God while depending on the power of the Spirit of God.

The seventh volume in the 9Marks: Building Healthy Churches series, this book will help Christians joyfully embrace evangelism as a way of life as it equips them to share their faith with those who don't yet know Jesus. Book Description
What makes good sermons? And how do they come to be? Appropriating insights from the history of rhetoric and modern communications theory, Robin Meyers proposes that truly effective sermons involve more than moralistic proselytizing or three points and a joke. Rather, the preacher must enter into dialogue--not only with Scripture and the congregation but creatively with him- or herself as well. This willingness to listen to one's own sermon, this willingess to be freshly persuaded, will help enable the preacher to communicate with greater passion, insight, poetry, and clarity.
