Book Description
Linear algebra is growing in importance. 3D entertainment, animations in movies and video games are developed using linear algebra. Animated characters are generated using equations straight out of this book. Linear algebra is used to extract knowledge from the massive amounts of data generated from modern technology. The Fourth Edition of this popular text introduces linear algebra in a comprehensive, geometric, and algorithmic way. The authors start with the fundamentals in 2D and 3D, then move on to higher dimensions, expanding on the fundamentals and introducing new topics, which are necessary for many real-life applications and the development of abstract thought. Applications are introduced to motivate topics. The subtitle, A Geometry Toolbox, hints at the book’s geometric approach, which is supported by many sketches and figures. Furthermore, the book covers applications of triangles, polygons, conics, and curves. Examples demonstrate each topic in action. This practical approach to a linear algebra course, whether through classroom instruction or self-study, is unique to this book. New to the Fourth Edition: Ten new application sections. A new section on change of basis. This concept now appears in several places. Chapters 14-16 on higher dimensions are notably revised. A deeper look at polynomials in the gallery of spaces. Introduces the QR decomposition and its relevance to least squares. Similarity and diagonalization are given more attention, as are eigenfunctions. A longer thread on least squares, running from orthogonal projections to a solution via SVD and the pseudoinverse. More applications for PCA have been added. More examples, exercises, and more on the kernel and general linear spaces. A list of applications has been added in Appendix A. The book gives instructors the option of tailoring the course for the primary interests of their students: mathematics, engineering, science, computer graphics, and geometric modeling.

Book Description
"Where are we ever going to use this?" Every high school math student has asked this question. Often teachers themselves aren't sure how to respond. One answer is that higher mathematics learned in high school will be essential to learning yet more at the college level. A more satisfactory answer calls for an awareness of how math is applied in many specific areas. Written primarily for teachers, this book presents hundreds of practical applications for mathematics--from baseball statistics to the theory of relativity--that can be understood by anyone with a knowledge of high school algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Book Description
This text for graduate students discusses the mathematical foundations of statistical inference for building three-dimensional models from image and sensor data that contain noise--a task involving autonomous robots guided by video cameras and sensors. The text employs a theoretical accuracy for the optimization procedure, which maximizes the reliability of estimations based on noise data. The numerous mathematical prerequisites for developing the theories are explained systematically in separate chapters. These methods range from linear algebra, optimization, and geometry to a detailed statistical theory of geometric patterns, fitting estimates, and model selection. In addition, examples drawn from both synthetic and real data demonstrate the insufficiencies of conventional procedures and the improvements in accuracy that result from the use of optimal methods.

Book Description
This is a study guide written primarily for middle and high schoolers in order for them to learn relevant math concepts at their level. There is an introduction before each chapter that describes what will be covered. Chapter 7 discusses similarity, which explains the ratio between two numbers, discern proportions and their properties, identifies the properties of similar polygons, and proves that two triangles can be similar with different postulates and theorems, as well as learning how to identify dilations and its properties. Chapter 8 covers right triangles, which demonstrates how to solve problems involving similar triangles formed by the altitude that is perpendicular to the hypotenuse, finding the lengths of the sides of a triangle with the Pythagorean Theorem, using side lengths to classify triangles and angles measures and finding their length in special right triangles, and to find the magnitude and direction of a vector. Chapter 9 deals with circles that discuss segments and lines related to circles, use properties of tangents, arcs, and chords of a circle as well as the properties of inscribed angles and inscribed polygons of a circle, and finding and graphing the equation of a circle. Chapter 10 teaches areas of polygons and circles, which can describe the angle measures of polygons, the areas of regular polygons as well as the perimeters and areas of similar figures, the circumference and arc length of circles, and the areas of circles and their sectors. Each concept has a step-by-step explanation on how to approach the problems. Afterwards, there is a self- test that assesses the knowledge of the student, and at the end of the book, there is a review test that examines the student's knowledge of all the previous chapters.
