Dans les règles officielles, le port du protège-dents n’est pas obligatoire mais recommandé. La prévalence des traumatismes dentaires dans le monde est d'environ 4,5%, alors que pour le rugby cette prévalence est de 38%.Il semble nécessaire du fait de ce risque accru de réaliser une étude afin de comprendre les habitudes des joueurs français concernant le port du protège-dents en fonction de l’âge et du niveau pratiqué , mais aussi la place de la prévention dans le rugby français. Le but in fine est de promouvoir le port du protège-dents dès le plus jeune âge et à tous les niveaux pratiqués. Cette étude a permis de mettre en avant le manque de prévention et l’importance d’un protège-dents lors de la pratique du rugby afin de diminuer le risque de traumatismes bucco-dentaires.
