Book Description
This book provides a thorough approach for mastering the behavior and operation of induction motors, an essential device in the modern industrial world. Its way of presentation renders this book suitable for selfteaching by students, engineers, and researchers in the field of electrical engineering. It covers the modern theory of induction motor applications and control methods. The transient analysis of both three-phase and single-phase induction motors as well as that of the double-cage motors are developed. The principles of such modern control methods as Fiel-Oriented Control, Direct Torque Control and Computed Charges Acceleration Method are clearly treated in this monograph. Numerous equations, simulations, and figures are presented.

Book Description
Provides the general background for design of electrical motors by placing motor design in the context of the overall drive and its function, and with a survey of the various electrical and mechanical components. The design itself is addressed using an original approach based on first principles: it begins with the design specifications, expresses them in terms of electric and magnetic stresses, establishes appropriate geometry, and arrives at the dimensions. Unconventional topologies are also discussed.

Book Description
Induction motors having more than three phases were investigated to determine their suitability for electric vehicle applications. The objective was to have a motor with a current rating lower than that of a three-phase motor. The name chosen for these is high phase order (HPO) motors. Motors having six phases and nine phases were given the most attention. It was found that HPO motors are quite suitable for electric vehicles, and for many other applications as well. They have characteristics which are as good as or better than three-phase motors for practically all applications where polyphase induction motors are appropriate. Some of the analysis methods are presented, and several of the equivalent circuits which facilitate the determination of harmonic currents and losses, or currents with unbalanced sources, are included. The sometimes large stator currents due to harmonics in the source voltages are pointed out. Filters which can limit these currents were developed. An analysis and description of these filters is included. Experimental results which confirm and illustrate much of the theory are also included. These include locked rotor test results and full-load performance with an open phase. Also shown are oscillograms which display the reduction in harmonic currents when a filter is used with the experimental motor supplied by a non-sinusoidal source. Klingshirn, Eugene A. Book Description
Controlling the level of noise in electrical motors is critical to overall system performance. However, predicting noise of an electrical motor is more difficult and less accurate than for other characteristics such as torque-speed. Recent advances have produced powerful computational methods for noise prediction, and Noise of Polyphase Electric Motors is the first book to collect these advances in a single source. It is also the first to include noise prediction for permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors. Complete coverage of all aspects of electromagnetic, structural, and vibro-acoustic noise makes this a uniquely comprehensive reference. The authors begin with the basic principles of noise generation and radiation, magnetic field and radial forces, torque pulsations, acoustic calculations, as well as noise and vibration of mechanical and acoustic origin. Moving to applications, the book examines in detail stator system vibration analysis including the use of finite element method (FEM) modal analysis; FEM for radial pressure and structural modeling; boundary element methods (BEM) for acoustic radiation; statistical energy analysis (SEA); instrumentation including technologies, procedures, and standards; and both passive and active methods for control of noise and vibration. Noise of Polyphase Electric Motors gathers the fundamental concepts along with all of the analytical, numerical, and statistical methods into a unified reference. It supplies all of the tools necessary to improve the noise performance of electrical motors at the design stage.

Book Description
This book covers the diagnosis and assessment of the various faults which can occur in a three phase induction motor, namely rotor broken-bar faults, rotor-mass unbalance faults, stator winding faults, single phasing faults and crawling. Following a brief introduction, the second chapter describes the construction and operation of an induction motor, then reviews the range of known motor faults, some existing techniques for fault analysis, and some useful signal processing techniques. It includes an extensive literature survey to establish the research trends in induction motor fault analysis. Chapters three to seven describe the assessment of each of the five primary fault types. In the third chapter the rotor broken-bar fault is discussed and then two methods of diagnosis are described; (i) diagnosis of the fault through Radar analysis of stator current Concordia and (ii) diagnosis through envelope analysis of motor startup current using Hilbert and Wavelet Transforms. In chapter four, rotor-mass unbalance faults are assessed, and diagnosis of both transient and steady state stator current has been analyzed using different techniques. If both rotor broken-bar and rotor-mass unbalance faults occur simultaneously then for identification an algorithm is provided in this chapter. Chapter five considers stator winding faults and five different analysis techniques, chapter six covers diagnosis of single phasing faults, and chapter seven describes crawling and its diagnosis. Finally, chapter eight focuses on fault assessment, and presents a summary of the book together with a discussion of prospects for future research on fault diagnosis.
