Book Description
Janet is an optimistic poet, and author of this amazing book, Poetry Behind Prison Bars. The book embraces revitalizing poems by Janet's father who wrote some heart-warming and encouraging verses that stir the soul and bring in gratitude and positivity. Inspired by the wisdom and blessed with the writing gift, Janet continued the legacy of her father and her Abuela. She came into the world of writing and poetry which is also showcased in her book. Another great inspiration behind Janet's writing are historic poets such as Sonia Sanchez, Miguel Piñero, and Maya Angelou just to name a few. Her father's period in jail and then the loss of her father while in jail, worked as a turning point in Janet's life. She experienced grief, depression, anxiety, and being a child who was never shown how to cope with her closest person's death. She utilized poetry to manage her emotions, and to heal herself after the loss of her dad, first to jail then to cancer. Although he never seen another free day while on earth, he always repeated the words to her, "It's not where I am, it's where my thoughts take us." Janet kept those words close to heart and decided she wants to use all of their poetry as a source of bringing peace, love, prayers and healing to the everyday life of people, as well as continuous healing to herself. With time, she spread her wings and started embracing life with gratitude, positivity, prayers, and meditation. Her expression of emotions and way of perceiving life may be life-saving for many people. Never held back, she continued spreading the word of auspiciousness and love through a Facebook page where people can connect, relate, share their experiences, and learn. Her work is accredited by over 20+ years of healthcare experience caring for individuals ranging from children, to the disabled, to the beautiful old souls further proving that healing and bringing light to others has always been her purpose. In addition to being the source of her creativity, her love of nature, meditation, praying, practicing gratitude are her strengths and resiliency is her super power. Her deepest thoughts come while sitting on her grandparents porch swing, inspired by the memories in the house she grew up in, she brings heart-touching pieces of poetry to paper. Collected Poems
Author: Isabella Valancy Crawford
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 1442637811
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 354
Book Description
This volume established Isabella Valancy Crawford as one of Canada's principal poets. Coupled with an introductory collage of viewpoints and reactions to her work by James Reaney its provides a vivid glimpse into the literary past of this country. Although her poetry reflects the patterns of her time, Isabella Valancy Crawford was able to accept the raw and vigorous Canadian landscape on its own terms. She was the first of our poets for whom it became the setting for struggle, passion, love, and death. She celebrated the young land with an imagery enriched by allusions to North American Indian lore reflected in such lines as these: From his far wigwam sprang the strong North Wind And rushed with war-cry down the steep ravine, And wrestled with the giants of the woods; And with his ice-club beat the swelling crests Of the deep water courses into death. 'These verses bear the stamp of genius and show a true poetic instinct,' said a critic in The Canadian Magazine in 1895. The poetry of Isabella Valancy Crawford forms a vital part of the body of Canadian writing.
