Book Description
Excerpt from Poems by the Wayside In the midst of pressing duties, and in the quiet ness of the night season have these little verses taken form in the heart and mind of a loyal wife and mother, an affectionate teacher and friend; one whose ideals have always been of the highest, whose sense of right and wrong of the keenest, whose every aim has been to right the wrong to the fullest extent of her power and strength wherever possible. Well might the poet have had this little book in mind when he wrote. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Poetry By Wayside, The Withered Rose is an original collection of poetry from the late 1800s which was never before published in a printed book. AMERICAN POETRY originally written by a Sergeant in the CIVIL WAR. Thus you have here writings from someone who was in the CIVIL WAR and he was a Civil War poet.ORIGINAL IMAGES taken from the actual ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT featuring the very POEMS inside this POETRY BOOK are also included in this book, "Poetry By Wayside," which is Book Four of Four of this poetry collection. Who was Wayside? The original Writer was William McFarland who was a Union Officer in the United States Civil War. He was a Sergeant for the North from KANSAS. William McFarland was in the Kansas Union Army, Co. K, 13th Voluntary Regiment as a Sergeant. This original writer's pen name was Wayside and he was also my Civil War Ancestor. Wayside was a POET OF THE NORTH and thus he was a poet of the Civil War and he wrote poems about his life's experiences and feelings. For genealogical purposes: William McFarland, was my great, great, great grandfather. William McFarland lived from 1823 to 1887. William McFarland was born on 29 Dec. 1823 in Bucklestown, Berkeley, West Virginia and on 30 May 1850 he married Anna Virginia Donaldson in Miami, Indiana. William McFarland was also a school teacher in Indiana, Kansas and Illinois. They had five daughters one of whom was my great, great grandmother. William McFarland died on 12 Sept. 1887 in Illinois. These American poems from the 19th Century are inspirational and general in nature of various topics such as life and death and life eternal. If you liked the other three poetry books of "Poetry By Wayside" authored by Wayside, you should also like this book by Wayside. This writer had such elegant and beautiful handwriting and wrote using a quill pen. These poems are NOT reproductions of ANY poem previously typed and published in a printed book. The poems in this book are special, unique poems as they were written in the late 1800s, and were never published in a book. PLUS, we have included actual scanned images of them inside the book. No one else has these!Long lost and forgotten, my family had the original pages of this manuscript for over 100 years and this has been kept hidden and protected and safe ever since. Thus this is a part of American history as there may be even clues in this poetry collection book as to how America was in the 19th Century.NOW is the time for Wayside to finally get his poetry published and we are doing just that for him. Now how many poems are there around like this? This original author actually lived in the mid and late 1800s and thus what poetry we have are like no other. His style of writing is different as they are of the 19th Century Poetry. Wayside writes with such great feeling one feels like you are actually there experiencing the events for yourself.Anyone that enjoys family history or genealogy should enjoy reading of the American history. If you want to find out what an event was all about - war - sickness - disease - old age - death - sorrow - read the poems written about it in that era. Like old handwriting? You'll like these images. Remember the American poems were written all prior to 1887. A collection of poetry such as this allows us to be deeply touched in such a way that we can feel like we were there. The following is a list of the original Poetry By Wayside in this book typed with their original image where you will not find these images anywhere else. Book Description
Excerpt from Wayside Poems Burns in the United States that would gladly con tribute for this purpose. Even with arches and cause way gone, if it could only be preserved as a ruin, it would still be the most valuable bridge in the world. It is not so much a bridge of traffic as a bridge of memory. 'it would be a difficult question, ' said one of the great statesmen of Britain, 'if we had to decide whether we should give up our Shakespeare or our Indian possessions.' The statesman was right. It is not a question of sentiment, although the reply of Dis raeli will be remembered when an opponent in the House of Commons said: 'it is all sentiment. 'only sentiment, replied Disraeli, 'sentiment rules the world.' It is a subject, moreover, not to be approached with criticism, but rather with love, for love accom plisheth all things, although it would be rather incon gruous at the annual celebration in Ayr of the birth day of Robert Burns to sing - 'we'll a' be prood 0' Robin' after the Auld Brig had passed away. There is a debt due to the memory of him who has made the old burgh memorable, and placed the name of Ayr first in the alphabet of fame. The Town C oun cil of Ayr holds in trust a sacred legacy, a gift to man kind. As guardians of this trust they surely will not be unmindful of their responsibility to the world.
