Book Description
The main gist of the story is a young mother with two little boys who loved all animals. Poddy was written around the time of the Vietnam War. She became very tame and would come into the house if we allowed it. Our neighbors were very ethnic, and the little ladies who would pass the front gate loved the calf, who was very friendly. I remember all the distant countries where people accepted a cow in the garden. Even so, there is always a snake in the woodpile somewhere, and someone dobbed and rang the council. We had to let her go, and I thought about the old truism, If you break the law, there is always a price to pay. Our hearts broke because that dear little cow filled our lives with her jumping and running about; she was so happy. Poddy is a true story, and now we Australians can help what is happening in Asia with dairy products coming from a line of Jersey cows, lovingly raised by a mother and her boys.

Brooke Kingston is smart, capable and strong-willed, and runs her family's property with dedication and skill. More at home on horseback than in heels, her life revolves around her beloved 'boys' - showjumpers Poddy, Oddy and Sod. Then a tragic accident leaves Brooke a mess. Newcomer Lachie Cambridge is hired to manage the farm, and Brooke finds herself out of a job and out of luck. But she won't go without a fight. What she doesn't expect is Lachie himself - a handsome, gentle giant with a will to match her own. But with every day that Lachie stays, Brooke's future on the farm becomes more uncertain. Will she be forced to choose between her home and the man she's falling for, or will the very things that brought them together tear them apart?

Book Description
Robert A. Heinlein is generally recognized as the most important American science fiction writer of the 20th century. This is the first detailed critical examination of his entire career. It is not a biography--that is being done in a two-volume work by William Patterson. Instead, this book looks at each piece of fiction (and a few pieces of sf-related nonfiction) that Heinlein wrote, chronologically by date of publication, in order to consider what each contributes to his overall accomplishment. The aim is to be fair, to look clearly at the strengths and weaknesses of the writings that have inspired generations of readers and writers.
