Book Description
Hardcover, 148 pages 9 × 12 in. 22.86 × 30.48 cm. Pheromone Hotbox, the first monograph from Los Angeles-based photographer Amanda Charchian (born 1988), brings together work shot by the artist between 2012 and 2015. Working around the idea of the "Pheromone Hotbox" that occurs when a woman photographs another woman--a title Charchian lent to a 2014 group exhibition at Stephen Kasher Gallery in New York--Charchian photographs her female artist friends in dramatic locations across the globe, including in Iceland, France, Costa Rica, Morocco, Israel, and Cuba. Simultaneously dreamy and erotically charged, Charchian's photographs capture the intensity and intimacy of the interaction between artist and model. In addition to exhibiting her fine art photography in galleries internationally, Charchian is also well known for her fashion and commercial work, which has appeared in numerous international publications, including Vogue, Huffington Post, i-D, Interview, Garage, and Purple. Edited by J.C. Gabel and Jessica Hundley Designed by Brian Roettinger Split release with Dilettante Paper Hat & Beard Press #2

Book Description
Photographer O. N. Pruitt (1891–1967) was for some forty years the de facto documentarian of Lowndes County, Mississippi, and its county seat, Columbus--known to locals as "Possum Town." His body of work recalls many FSA photographers, but Pruitt was not an outsider with an agenda; he was a community member with intimate knowledge of the town and its residents. He photographed his fellow white citizens and Black ones as well, in circumstances ranging from the mundane to the horrific: family picnics, parades, river baptisms, carnivals, fires, funerals, two of Mississippi's last public and legal executions by hanging, and a lynching. From formal portraits to candid images of events in the moment, Pruitt's documentary of a specific yet representative southern town offers viewers today an invitation to meditate on the interrelations of photography, community, race, and historical memory. Columbus native Berkley Hudson was photographed by Pruitt, and for more than three decades he has considered and curated Pruitt's expansive archive, both as a scholar of media and visual journalism and as a community member. This stunning book presents Pruitt's photography as never before, combining more than 190 images with a biographical introduction and Hudson's short essays and reflective captions on subjects such as religion, ethnic identity, the ordinary graces of everyday life, and the exercise of brutal power.

Book Description
Art. Photography. The photographs of NUDE REAGAN are discordant and grotesque, portraying changing bodies beneath the endless repetition of one mask. For John Brian King's most recent series, he photographed twenty-three nude models with a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 camera in an empty Palm Springs office. Each model wore the same Ronald Reagan mask, striking any pose she liked. Deliberately unsettling, these photographs depict Reagan as a demon and specter haunting the modern world. Evoking the dead conservative president, the models wear the hideous dark-eyed mask--anemic and wrinkled--and morph into unerotic, freakish wraiths. The colors of the photographs accentuate these figures' eerie qualities: the camera's unstable flash turns the bland office backdrop alternately into a mold green, a muddy gray, a brilliant white, or a dense, all-encompassing black setting. The women's shadows are sometimes starkly present, and at other times disappear. The photographer was influenced by such disparate sources as Conrad Veidt's grim grin in The Man Who Laughs; Reagan's own frozen, Brylcreem-lathered satanic countenance; artist Maurizio Cattelan's sardonic approach to politics in art; and Ralph Eugene Meatyard's Southern Gothic photographs of masked children.

Book Description
Strange, outdated laws from each of the 50 U.S. states—some overturned, some still on the books, and some merely the stuff of legends—are depicted with sly wit by Olivia Locher. Incisive, ironic, and gorgeous, these images will appeal to art buffs and trivia fans alike. A foreword from American poet Kenneth Goldsmith and an interview with the artist by Eric Shiner, former director of the Andy Warhol Museum, contextualize rising-star Locher's photography. From serving wine in teacups in Kansas to licking a toad in Kentucky or perming a child's hair in Nebraska, breaking the law has never looked so good.

Book Description
'I've long wished perfumery to be taken seriously as an art, and for scent critics to be as fierce as opera critics, and for the wearers of certain "fragrances" to be hissed in public, while others are cheered. This year has brought Perfumes: The Guide by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez, which I breathed in, rather than read, in one delighted gulp.' Hilary Mantel, Guardian Perfumes: The Guide is the culmination of Turin's lifelong obsession and rare scientific flair and Sanchez's stylish and devoted blogging about every scent that she's ever loved and loathed. Together they make a fine and utterly persuasive argument for the unrecognised craft of perfume-making. Perfume writing has certainly never been this honest, compelling or downright entertaining.
