Book Description
In 1940 a group of artists, sculptors, film makers, theatre designers and set painters came together to form the Camouflage Unit. They were so successful that in August 1942 Montgomery ordered them to to hide the preparations for the Battle of Alamein. In six weeks two entire divisions were conjured from the sand, while real units, stores and men vanished into thin air. Then, right in front of the German's eyes they made 600 tanks disappear and reappear fifty miles away disguised as lorries. Rommel had been bamboozled by an army made of nothing but string and straw and bits of wood.

Book Description
"Phantom Soldier" is now on the U.S. Army's most prestigious pre-deployment reading list for a reason. It won't please those who have come to believe that wars are won and casualties limited through technology, or that the victor's version of one is always correct. But, all U.S. security personnel should read it. Possibly the West's best treatise on Oriental warfare, it sheds new light on what Asian infantry can do: (1) alternate between guerrilla, mobile, and positional warfare; (2) use "ordinary forces" to engage and "extraordinary forces [infiltrators]" to defeat; and then (3) retreat to save lives. What occurred in history doesn't change, but one's perception of it does--as he comes to better understand his former foe. Here's what really happened at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Chosin Reservoir, and Hue City. Those who believe this book's cover art to be fantasy have only to google the term "dac cong." Through how the NVA held their own without resupply, tanks, artillery, or air power, U.S. grunts could better survive the more lethal enemy weaponry of the 21st Century.

Book Description
“A riveting tale told through personal accounts and sketches along the way—ultimately, a story of success against great odds. I enjoyed it enormously.” —Tom Brokaw The first book to tell the full story of how a traveling road show of artists wielding imagination, paint, and bravado saved thousands of American lives—now updated with new material. In the summer of 1944, a handpicked group of young GIs—artists, designers, architects, and sound engineers, including such future luminaries as Bill Blass, Ellsworth Kelly, Arthur Singer, Victor Dowd, Art Kane, and Jack Masey—landed in France to conduct a secret mission. From Normandy to the Rhine, the 1,100 men of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, known as the Ghost Army, conjured up phony convoys, phantom divisions, and make-believe headquarters to fool the enemy about the strength and location of American units. Every move they made was top secret, and their story was hushed up for decades after the war's end. Hundreds of color and black-and-white photographs, along with maps, official memos, and letters, accompany Rick Beyer and Elizabeth Sayles’s meticulous research and interviews with many of the soldiers, weaving a compelling narrative of how an unlikely team carried out amazing battlefield deceptions that saved thousands of American lives and helped open the way for the final drive to Germany. The stunning art created between missions also offers a glimpse of life behind the lines during World War II. This updated edition includes: A new afterword by co-author Rick Beyer Never-before-seen additional images The successful campaign to have the unit awarded a Congressional Gold Medal History and WWII enthusiasts will find The Ghost Army of World War II an essential addition to their library.

Book Description
There are 2 parts to the book. The first section covers some of the important events that took place around the world, from the early part of the 19th century, up to the years following World War II. It features the 2 men that I have always admired, both of whom planned and fought against tyranny. Neither of these men actually used weapons in the Second World War, but they did what they had to do, to preserve our freedom. The 2 men are Sir Winston Churchill and my father, both of whom had army careers, dad's lasting for 31 years. Churchill's was a much shorter span, before he moved into Politics. The second part of the book gives details of my travels around the world to 42 countries. To do this, I fl ew a total of 964,995 miles, taking 1430 fl ights on 91 different types of aircraft. In addition I have traveled far more than a million miles by car. There were many times that I got very close to having my life cut short, but somehow I managed to survive, as I am still here at age 79. It was all very interesting to me and I hope that I have been able to convey some of this excitement in what I have written.

Book Description
"The literary career of Uchida Hyakken (1889–1971) encompassed a wide variety of styles and genres, including fiction, zuihitsu (essays), war diaries, poetry, travelogues, and children’s stories. In discussing his oeuvre, critics have circumscribed Hyakken to a private literary realm detached from the era in which he wrote. Rachel DiNitto provides a critical corrective by locating in Hyakken’s simple yet powerful literary language a new way to appreciate the various literary reactions to the modernization of the early decades of the twentieth century and a means to open up a literary space of protest, an alternate intellectual response to the era of militarism. This book takes up Hyakken’s fiction and essays written during Japan’s prewar years to investigate the intersection of his literature with the material and discursive surroundings of the time: a consumer-oriented print culture; the popular entertainment of film; the capitalist and cultural force of an emergent middle class; a planned, yet sprawling metropolis; and the war machine of an expanding Japanese empire. Emerging from this analysis is a writer who relied on the quotidian language of the everyday and the symbols of cultural modernism to counter the harsh realities of modernization and imperialism and to express sentiments contrary to the mainstream ideological rhetoric of the time."

Book Description
The story of Jesus’ life has remained frozen and stagnant in the perspective dictated by the first Christian Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. (C.E.) To this day, few Christians know any more than what is reported in the Gospels of the Bible. Unfortunately, even fewer know that new discoveries, mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries, have been found revealing much more about the man called Jesus from the 1st century. Yet even in these post-modern times, the new information has been shrouded in secrecy and organized religion doesn’t seek change or new insight on this subject. “The Dawn from on High” is a series of nine novels following the sequential life of Jesus. No new information is censored and no old information is withdrawn. Rather, all the information is knit together in a story written for the 21st century reader. It has been written and guided by an ancient rabbinic principle known as the Halakic Principle which incorporates a ‘both/and’ technique rather than the ‘either/or’ discipline used by the founders of the Christian religion. This first volume includes the story of Jesus’ life from conception to the age of ten years. Most of this time Jesus lived with his family in Egypt. Jesus said, “Ask; and it will be given to you, Seek; and you will find, Knock; and the door will be opened to you.” The challenge has been given to each of us. If we accept it, we will learn more than we ever thought possible!
