Book Description
A technique is developed for determining a representative value of the maximum efficiency that can be achieved with high performance ejectors when operating on the supersonic solution branch of an ejector. These efficiencies are used to calculate thrust augmentation for an ejector over a wide range of parameters including operation with a hypothetical engine. Reasonable values of thrust augmentation can be achieved at low subsonic flight mach numbers. However, at flight Mach numbers near one, little or not thrust augmentation was found. At supersonic flight Mach numbers, thrust augmentation was achieved. Basic studies indicated that the effects of temperature was opposite at subsonic and supersonic flight Mach numbers. Thrust augmentation decreased with increasing temperature at subsonic Mach number sand increased with increasing temperature at supersonic Mach numbers.

Book Description
Photon correlation is a kind of spectroscopy designed to identify optical frequency shifts and line-broadening effects in the range of many MHz down to a few Hz. The optical intensity is measured in terms of single photon detection events which result in current pulses at the output of photomulti plier tubes. This signal is processed in real time in a special-purpose paral lel processor known as a correlator. The resulting photon correlation func tion, a function in the time domain, contains the desired spectral informa tion, which may be extracted by a suitable algorithm. Due to the non-intrusive nature and the sound theoretical basis of photon correlation, the phenomena under study are not disturbed, and the parameters in question can be precisely evaluated. For these reasons photon correlation has become a valuable and in many instances indispensable technique in two distinct fields. One of these is velocimetry in fluid flow. This includes hydro- and aerodynamic processes in liquids, gases, or flames where the velo city field may be stationary, time periodic, or turbulent, and may range from micrometers per second for motion inside biological cells to one kilometer per second for supersonic flow. The other major field is stochastic particle propagation due to Brownian motion.

Book Description
"An investigation was conducted in order to evaluate the static thrust augmentation attainable through the use of a rocket-ejector system with a heated supersonic primary jet. This system consisted of a cylindrical mixing tube in conjunction with a supersonic nozzle having an expansion ratio of 15 to 1. A hydrogen peroxide gas generator was used to provide heated nozzle flow. An ejector with a bellmouthed inlet provided thrust augmentation up to about 18 percent of the primary rocket thrust, whereas the use of a blunt-lip inlet with elliptical profile provided augmentation up to 9 percent. Axial withdrawal of the rocket nozzle from the ejector provided small gains in thrust augmentation."--P.[1]

Book Description
The Joint Institute for Aeronautics and Acoustics at Stanford University was established in October 1973 to provide an academic environment for long-term cooperative research between Stanford and NASA Ames Research Center. Since its establishment, the In stitute has wnducted theoretical and experimental work in the areas of aerodynamics, acoustics, fluid mechanics, flight dynamics, guid ance and control, and human factors. This research has involved Stanford faculty, research associates, graduate students, and many distinguished visitors in collaborative efforts with the research staff of NASA Ames Research Center. The occasion of the Institute's tenth anniversary was used to reflect back on where that research has brought us, and to consider where our endeavors should be directed next. Thus, an International Symposium was held to review recent advances in the fields relevant to the activities of the Institute and to discuss the areas of research to be undertaken in the future. This anniversary was also chosen a.."1 an opportunity to honor one of the Institute's founders and its di rector, Professor Krishnamurty Karamcheti. It has been his creative inspiration that has provided the ideal research environment at the Joint Institute. The International Symposium on Recent Advances in Aero dynamics and Aconstics was held at Stanford University, Stanford, California, U.S.A., August 22-26, 198:~. Thirty-five distinguished scientists were invited to present a comprehensive review on the fol lowing subject areas: unsteady aerodynamics, jets and shear layers, V /STOL aircraft aerodynamics, rotor dynamics and aerodynamics,.
