Book Description
Pemphigus and pemphigoid diseases are a heterogenous group of autoimmune blistering disorders (AIBD) characterized by tissue-bound and circulating autoantibodies against structural proteins of the desmosome and basement membrane zone of the skin and orifice-close mucosal tissues. While strong evidence has been provided that autoantibodies in AIBD are pathogenic, the exact mechanisms of how blister formation is mediated is very different between pemphigus and pemphigoid disorders and yet incompletely understood. Additionally, target antigens for the major AIBDs have already been identified on the molecular level. In contrast, diagnostic assays are not yet available for all autoantibody specificities and isotypes. Treatment also greatly relies on long-term unspecific immunosuppressants, although rituximab has greatly improved the outcome for patients with moderate and severe pemphigus. There is currently still a need to identify key pathophysiological mediators and pathways for the development of more specific, safer, and more effective treatment options. This Research Topic will honor the work of the late Detlef Zillikens, who has dedicated over 30 years to the field of AIBD and has authored more than 600 articles. We strongly encourage the submission of articles from colleagues and researchers who have collaborated with Prof. Zillikens in the past, however, we will also consider manuscripts from other authors. We would particularly like articles to cite Prof. Zillikens work wherever it is appropriate. We welcome the submission of original research and review articles that cover, but are not limited to, the following sub-topics: • autoantibody specificities • diagnostic assays • in vitro or in vivo studies about the effect of autoantibodies and their modulation • epidemiology and treatment of AIBD Reports of individual cases are discouraged Dr. Enno Schmidt receives grant funding from Euroimmun, Incyte, Dompe, Admirx, Synthon/biondis, Bayer, Pharmix, Alpine Immune, AstraZeneca, Sanofi, ArgenX, UCB, Novartis, Biotest, Fresenius Medical Care, and is consulting for Roche, Imevax, Thermo Fisher, Janssen, Topas, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Almirall, and Chugai. The other Topic Editors declare no potential competing interests in relation to the Research Topic theme.

Book Description
This book, the first complete textbook on this novel field in Medicine, comprehensively covers the clinical presentation, pathogenesis, genetics, and latest management strategies for autoinflammatory disorders as well as the basic science of autoinflammation. Relevant concepts such as how translational science of genetics and immunology relates to the innate immune system and autoinflammation are covered. Descriptions of the monogenic and polygenic/complex diseases that fall under the umbrella of autoinflammatory diseases are provided. Further topics covered include the latest clinical and genetic diagnostic approaches, concepts on the relationship between autoinflammation and autoimmunity/immunodeficiency, the role of autoinflammation in cancer, treatments and management strategies for these diseases, and potential areas of future development. The Textbook of Autoinflammation systematically describes and reviews diagnostic and treatment options for autoinflammatory disorders as well as all aspects of the concept of autoinflammation, and represents a valuable resource for professionals in a variety of disciplines who encounter these patients or who study autoinflammation.

Book Description
Autoimmune disorders of the skin remain an enigma for many clinicians and scientists not familiar with these mostly severe and chronic diseases. The book provides an overview and the latest information on the broad spectrum of cutaneous autoimmune disorders for clinicians, scientists and practitioners in dermatology, medicine, rheumatology, ENT, pediatrics and ophthalmology. The book is unique since it presents the state-of-the-art knowledge on pathophysiology, clinical diagnosis and management of these disorders provided by the world experts in the field. The primary intention is to broaden the understanding of the pathophysiology of cutaneous autoimmune disorders and to provide a practical guide to how to identify and handle these conditions. The book is illustrated with many tables, illustrative figures and clinical color photographs. The second edition has been extended by chapters on autoimmune pigmentary disorders (vitiligo), hairloss (alopecia areata) and cutaneous symptoms of rheumatic disorders.

Book Description
This book provides obligatory study material on courses on autoimmune bullous diseases. Residents and researchers in dermatology and adjacent disciplines can use the book as a quick reference guide when dealing with these patients. The book contains protocols and follows international guidelines. Currently there is no quick primer on Autoimmune Bullous Diseases for dermatologists who wish to learn the subtleties of diagnosis and management of this group of mucocutaneous diseases. Since mucous membranes are also included the following medical disciplines might be interested too: oral medicine and stomatology, ENT, ophthalmology, gynaecology, gastro-enterology. The Center for Blistering Diseases in Groningen has organized since the year 2000 an annual course on Bullous Diseases for dermatologists and pathologists. The staff is selected from the faculty. The course is interactive and problem-oriented. The proposed book would represent the documented practical knowledge of the staff on these diseases. The information should be clear and practical with examples and questions for self-assessment.

Book Description
This book is a rich source of information on skin disorders due to toxicants in the environment. State of the art knowledge is summarized concerning the molecular basis of skin damage caused by well-appreciated environmental noxae. The book also provides a uniquely comprehensive overview of the detrimental dermatological effects of exposure to air pollution and global climate change. A special focus is contact allergy, which, beyond representing a major problem in dermatotoxicology, serves as a prime example for the development of toxicological approaches to risk assessment. A further chapter is devoted to contact urticaria, a condition that can progress to life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. The novel information offered in this book will enable the reader to go beyond the traditional thinking of dermatotoxicology and achieve a modern appreciation of the highly complex interplay between skin and environment.
