Book Description
As a promising technique, OFDM has been widely used in many new and emerging broadband communication systems, such as digital audio broadcasting (DAB), high-definition television (HDTV), wireless local area network (IEEE 802.11a and HIPERLAN/2). However, as the OFDM signals are the sum of signals with random amplitude and phase, they are likely to have large PAPR that requires a linear high-power- amplifier (HPA) with an extremely high dynamic range, which is expensive and inefficient. Furthermore, any amplifier nonlinearity causes intermodulation products resulting in unwanted out-of-band power and also increases complexity of DAC-ADC convertors. This work describes some of the PAPR Reduction Techniques and comparison among them.

Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Engineering - Communication Technology, grade: none, , course: M.Tech, language: English, abstract: As a promising technique, OFDM has been widely used in emerging broadband communication systems, such as digital audio broadcasting (DAB), high-definition television (HDTV), wireless local area network (IEEE 802.11a and HIPERLAN/2). However, as the OFDM signals are the sum of signals with random amplitude and phase, they are likely to have large PAPR that requires a linear high-power- amplifier (HPA) with an extremely high dynamic range, which is expensive and inefficient. Furthermore, any amplifier nonlinearity causes intermodulation products resulting in unwanted out-of-band power. A number of approaches have been proposed to deal with the PAPR problem, including clipping, clipping-and-filtering (CF), coding, companding transform, active constellation extension (ACE), selected mapping (SLM), partial transmit sequence (PTS), and so on. This thesis proposes an improvement in Selected Mapping technique and Simulation results are compared to existing techniques namely Exponential Companding Transform, Repeated Clipping and Filtering and Adaptive Active Constellation Extension. The improvements which are proposed in classical Selective Mapping technique satisfies the PAPR Reduction criteria with reducing the computational complexity. Also this new scheme has an important advantage of avoiding the extra bits along with the transmitted OFDM signal .This scheme can also be applied to the multiple transmitting antenna cases.

Book Description
In the last couple of years, wireless communications have experienced a quick growth due to the ubiquitous mobility, super internet speed and huge multimedia services & applications. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an emerging research field of wireless communication and finds its application where high data rate is required at low latency and better spectral efficiency. OFDM signals have a generic problem of high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) which is defined as the ratio of the peak power to the average power of the OFDM signal. The drawback of high PAPR is that the dynamic range of the power amplifier (PA) and digital-to-analog converter (DAC) during the transmission and reception of the signal is higher. The main focus of this research is to design & implement a new PAPR reduction scheme based on amplitude clipping & filtering method which reduces the PAPR significantly. Simulation results show the considerable improvement in case of PAPR reduction compare to an existing method. Besides these, overview, motivation & different types of analysis of PAPR reduction techniques are discussed in this book.

Book Description
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a modulation technique which revolutionized the field of communications and paved the way for the modern-day 4G LTE communications. OFDM technique is used in both wired and wireless communications. This type of modulation technique offers low intersymbol interference and provides high data rates. Due to these advantages of OFDM it is used in various applications like 4G LTE communications, wireless networks and digital TV. Besides these advantages, a major disadvantage of OFDM system is high peak to average power ratio due to addition of sinusoidal waves in communication which result in peaks in the output and cause signal degradation. In order to reduce the PAPR, a hybrid technique which combines Hadamard transform and Hamming peak windowing is developed. This technique is compared with the PAPR results obtained for OFDM, Hamming windowing, and companding. The bit error rates of all the above methods are compared passing the OFDM signal through AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) channel.

Book Description
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), a multicarrier modulation technique, widely used for many of the latest wireless standards such as Wi-Fi, LTE / LTE-A, DAB, DVB, WiMAX and so on. However, its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) for a large number of subcarriers which may drive the amplifier into non-linear region that radiates signals out of band, making it unobtrusive for practical applications. In this book, the comprehensive research and comparison are put forward for a variety of currently promising PAPR reduction methods on the basis of extensive reading and studying of associated papers and literature in this research area. The book caters to the needs of research fraternity and students in the field of wireless communication. The requirement for the readers of this book is to be familiar with the basics of OFDM system, however, R & D engineers from industry community working under wireless communication group can also benefit from this book as a supplementary reference.

Book Description
In this book, some of the existing PAPR reduction techniques have been analyzed. After discussing the existing PAPR reduction techniques, two new PAPR reduction techniques have been proposed which are based on the existing schemes. The simulation results for the proposed techniques are compared with some of the existing techniques like, Partial Transmit Sequences (PTS), Selective Mapping (SLM), Iterative flipping and new SLM. Although all the existing techniques can reduce the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR), the computer simulation results show that the Proposed techniques can offer better Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction performance. These proposed techniques have been named as Proposed Technique1 and Proposed Technique2 in this work. The results also show that the Proposed technique2 performs better than Proposed technique1 in terms of PAPR reduction when the numbers of subblocks in the OFDM transmitted signal increases. However, when the number of sub-blocks is comparatively lesser, the proposed technique1 gives better performance. The PAPR reduction performance analysis of the existing and proposed techniques is the main focus of my paper.

Book Description
Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) is a novel method of radio transmission under consideration for deployment in future cellular systems; specifically, in 3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) systems. SC-FDMA has drawn great attention from the communications industry as an attractive alternative to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). Introduction to Single Carrier FDMA places SC-FDMA in the wider context of wireless communications, providing the reader with an in-depth tutorial on SC-FDMA technology. The book introduces the reader to this new multiple access technique that utilizes single carrier modulation along with orthogonal frequency multiplexing and frequency domain equalization, plus its applications in communications settings. It considers the similarities with and differences from orthogonal frequency division modulation, multiplexing, and multiple access used extensively in cellular, broadcasting, and digital subscriber loop applications. Particular reference is made to the peak power characteristics of an SC-FDMA signal as an added advantage over OFDMA. Provides an extensive overview of the principles of SC-FDMA and its relation to other transmission techniques. Explains how the details of a specific implementation influence the tradeoffs among various figures of merit. Describes in detail the configuration of the SC-FDMA uplink transmission scheme published by 3GPP. Features link level simulation of an uplink SC-FDMA system using MATLAB. This is an essential text for industry engineers who are researching and developing 3GPP LTE systems. It is suitable for engineers designing wireless network equipment, handsets, data cards, modules, chipsets, and test equipment as well as those involved in designing LTE infrastructure. It would also be of interest to academics, graduate students, and industry researchers involved in advanced wireless communications, as well as business analysts who follow the cellular market.
