Book Description
"I thing that one of the great strengths of this book is its ′real-life′ cases for the students to examine from multiple perspectives." -Sherry Dingman, Marist College"This book approaches ethics from a unique perspective that appeals to students. In addition to providing stimulating cases, it provides the framework and legal background important to psychologists-in-training. Amazing work!...The vignette approach makes the book much more interesting than its competitors." -Misty Ginicola, Southern Connecticut State University Full coverage of the American Psychological Association′s (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct and engaging vignettes to draw students into Ethics for Psychologists, a unique textbook that explores the standards of conduct in the field of psychology from key perspectives, including the multicultural, moral, and legal perspectives. Focusing on complex ethical dilemmas students may encounter in real life, this book offers a variety of frameworks through which to examine such dilemmas, as well as commentaries about the dictates of our personal codes of ethics. Students are challenged to take control of their learning experience by moving beyond the basics of looking up each situation to find "the right thing to do," into a more active and engaged approach with the goal of becoming ethical thinkers and informed decision-makers.

Book Description
This volume addresses major issues and research in corrections and sentencing with the goal of using previous research and findings as a platform for recommendations about future research, evaluation, and policy. The last several decades witnessed major policy changes in sentencing and corrections in the United States, as well as considerable research to identify the most effective strategies for addressing criminal behavior. These efforts included changes in sentencing that eliminated parole and imposed draconian sentences for violent and drug crimes. The federal government, followed by most states, implemented sentencing guidelines that greatly reduced the discretion of the courts to impose sentences. The results were a multifold increase in the numbers of individuals in jails and prisons and on community supervision—increases that have only recently crested. There were also efforts to engage prosecutors and the courts in diversion and oversight, including the development of prosecutorial diversion programs, as well as a variety of specialty courts. Penal reform has included efforts to understand the transitions from prison to the community, including federal-led efforts focused on reentry programming. Community corrections reforms have ranged from increased surveillance through drug testing, electronic monitoring, and in some cases, judicial oversight, to rehabilitative efforts driven by risk and needs assessment. More recently, the focus has included pretrial reform to reduce the number of people held in jail pending trial, efforts that have brought attention to the use of bail and its disproportionate impact on people of color and the poor. This collection of chapters from leading researchers addresses a wide array of the latest research in the field. A unique approach featuring responses to the original essays by active researchers spurs discussion and provides a foundation for developing directions for future research and policymaking.

Book Description
A detective’s dark past meets his violent present in “[a] rich tapestry that lifts the police procedural into the realm of the mainstream novel” (Sue Grafton). It starts with five professional thieves. At their first robbery, they press a sawed-off shotgun against a bank manager’s head, and leave with nearly forty thousand pounds. They repeat the trick three times, raking in nearly half a million in cash. They have yet to kill, but with each raid they come closer to taking their bounty in blood. The Nottingham police department charges the brilliant but troubled Detective Inspector Charlie Resnick with stopping the crime spree. When the robberies turn violent, he can no longer deny their similarity to a long-buried incident from ten years ago, when a confrontation with a sociopathic killer nearly cost him his life. To halt this chilling crime wave, he must reopen a case he has spent a decade trying to forget.
