On the Structure of Hurricane Janice (1958)
Author: Robert C. Sheets
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Hurricane Janice
Languages : en
Pages : 260
Book Description
Hurricane Janice first appeared as a disturbed area south of Cuba. The first seven missions flown into the storm occurred on October 5, before it had attained hurricane intensity, the last on October 9, just before the storm experienced a rapid acceleration and intensification. The structure of Hurricane Janice during the developing and mature stages is described in this report. Profiles, horizontal cross sections, and radar photograph composites are presented. Particular attention has been given to the radar structure because of the somewhat three-dimensional nature of the data.

Atmospheric Satellite Observations
Author: Xiaolei Zou
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128209534
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 325
Book Description
Atmospheric Satellite Observations: Variation Assimilation and Quality Assurance provides an invaluable reference for satellite data assimilation. Topics covered include linear algebra, frequently used statistical methods, the interpolation role of function fitting, filtering when dealing with real observations, minimization in data assimilation systems, 3D-Var and the inverse problem it solves, 4D-Var and adjoint techniques, and much more. The book concludes with satellite observation of hurricanes. - Contains mathematical concepts from several branches of study, including calculus, linear algebra, probability theory, functional analysis, and minimization - Illustrates quality assurance for satellite observations using real data examples - Includes a dedicated chapter on how different satellite instruments see hurricanes - Reviews theory, system development, and the numerical experiments of three- and four-dimensional variational data assimilation (3D-Var/4D-Var)

Mean Distributions of Ozone Density Over North America, 1963-1964
Author: Wayne S. Hering
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Atmosphere
Languages : en
Pages : 36
Book Description
An interim summary of the ozone climate over North America has been prepared from AFCRL ozonesonde network observations made during 1963 and 1964 (AD-435 873, -604 880, -623 018). Mean bimonthly distributions of ozone density computed for individual network stations depict the average ozone structure as a function of altitude and season for the first two years of network operation. Data are also presented on the standard deviation of ozone density and the mean seasonal distributions along a meridional cross section extending from the Canal Zone to Greenland. A brief statistical analysis indicates that approximately 35 to 50 percent of the variance in the total ozone amount at middle and high latitudes is given by the fluctuations in ozone density in the 11- to 13-km or 13- to 15-km layers. (Author).
