Book Description
Development in Statistics, Volume 2 is a collection of papers that deals with one- and two- dimensional structures, the statistical theory of linear systems, bispectra, and energy transfer in grid-generated turbulence. Several papers discuss simultaneous test procedures, stochastic Markovian fields, as well as the stopping of invariant sequential probability ratio tests. One paper examines the relationships between excitation and response statistics for one-dimensional structures, and then as extended to two-dimensional structures. The special features issuing from these extensions are related to simple supported rectangular and square plates excited by a stationary random force applied at a single point. Another paper discuses the relationship between the measurable bispectra and the one-dimensional energy transfer terms, and which bispectra will vanish in an isotropic turbulent flow field. One paper reviews simultaneous test procedures, including the evaluation of the probability integrals of multivariates, multivariate gamma distributions, distributions of correlated quadratic forms. Another paper analyzes two concerns regarding the random sample size N, also known as stopping time. These are if N is finite with a probability of one, or the rate that the tail probabilities in the distribution of N go to zero. Mathematicians, statisticians, students, and professors of calculus or advanced mathematics will surely appreciate the collection.

Book Description
A companion volume to the authors' previous well-received work, the CRC Handbook of Tables for the Use of Order Statistics in Estimation, this handbook discusses testing whether a hypothesis is true or false. Together, these volumes are your complete reference to theory and important tables relating to order statistics and their applications. Once a researcher completes an experiment, the resulting data is assumed to have come from a normal distribution with its mean and variance unknown. The researcher is then presented with a hypothesis testing problem. The use of order statistics and related functions offers a simple, powerful, and interesting approach to solving this problem. This volume presents an introduction to the use of order statistics and explains the various problems and their applications. The role of order statistics in solving these problems is examined, several important statistics are introduced, and their use in addressing testing of hypothesis problems is highlighted. The book also includes numerous tables that facilitate the methods of hypothesis testing using order statistics. Examples are given of the use of these tables in multiple comparison tests, with attention to error rates and sample sizes, and in the analog range of analysis of variance.

Book Description
Sensory discriminative analysis forms a fundamental type of methodology and is used widely in sensory and consumer research. Sensory Discrimination Tests and Measurements: Statistical Principles, Procedures and Tables provides a comprehensive discussion of sensory discriminative analysis from a statistical perspective. A wide variety of test and measurement methods, which were developed during the past decades and scattered in various statistical and non-statistical journals, are included in the book. The book gives a unified picture of the state of the subject and reflects some features of advanced sensory discriminative analysis. Designed to be both a reference manual and a research monograph, practitioners will discover various useful test and measurement procedures. More statistically-oriented readers will find the statistical considerations behind the procedures. Sensory Discrimination Tests and Measurements will be of interest to everyone concerned with testing and measuring sensory difference and consumer preference.

Book Description
This outline of statistics as an aid in decision making will introduce a reader with limited mathematical background to the most important modern statistical methods. This is a revised and enlarged version, with major extensions and additions, of my "Angewandte Statistik" (5th ed.), which has proved useful for research workers and for consulting statisticians. Applied statistics is at the same time a collection of applicable statistical methods and the application of these methods to measured and/or counted observations. Abstract mathematical concepts and derivations are avoided. Special emphasis is placed on the basic principles of statistical formulation, and on the explanation of the conditions under which a certain formula or a certain test is valid. Preference is given to consideration of the analysis of small sized samples and of distribution-free methods. As a text and reference this book is written for non-mathematicians, in particular for technicians, engineers, executives, students, physicians as well as researchers in other disciplines. It gives any mathematician interested in the practical uses of statistics a general account of the subject. Practical application is the main theme; thus an essential part of the book consists in the 440 fully worked-out numerical examples, some of which are very simple; the 57 exercises with solutions; a number of different compu tational aids; and an extensive bibliography and a very detailed index. In particular, a collection of 232 mathematical and mathematical-statistical tables serves to enable and to simplify the computations.
