This volume contains the papers presented at the International Workshop on Internet and Network Economics held during December 17–20, 2008, in Sha- hai, China, for its fourth edition. WINE 2008 provided a forum for researchers from di?erent disciplines to communicate with each other and exchange their researching ?ndings in this emerging ?eld. WINE 2008hadteninvitedspeakers:FanChungGraham,MatthewJackson, Lawrence Lau, Tom Luo, Eric Maskin, Paul Milgrom, Christos Papadimitriou, Herbert Scarf, Hal Varian and Yinyu Ye. There were 126 submissions. Each submission was reviewed on average by 2. 5 Programme Committee members. The Committee decided to accept 68 papers. The programme also included 10 invited talks. This ?nal program contained papers covering topics including equilibrium, information markets, sponsored auction, network economics, mechanism - sign, socialnetworks, advertisementpricing, computationalequilibrium, network games, algorithms and complexity for games. Book Description
We study optimal bundling when consumers differ in one dimension. We introduce a partial order on the set of bundles defined by (i) set inclusion and (ii) sales volumes (if sold alone and priced optimally). We show that if the undominated bundles with respect to this partial order are nested, then nested bundling (tiered pricing) is optimal. We characterize which nested menu is optimal: Selling a given menu of nested bundles is optimal if a smaller bundle in (out of) the menu sells more (less) than a bigger bundle in the menu. We apply these insights to connect optimal bundling and quality design to price elasticities and cost structures: (i) when price elasticities are quasi-convex on the set of bundles, nested bundling is always optimal and the optimal mechanism simply creates nests in the order of price elasticities; (ii) when consumers' preferences are multiplicative, the optimal quality design can be characterized by the lower monotone envelope of the average cost curve.

Book Description
Intermediate Microeconomic Theory textbook for the undergraduate level. Microeconomics is built "from the ground up", with the mathematics fully integrated into the exposition. Consumer Theory, Producer Theory, and Game Theory are all covered within the unifying framework that calculus offers. Readers should have a familiarity with algebra and calculus, but an extensive Math Review is provided to reinforce the major themes presented throughout.

Book Description
We study the bundle size pricing (BSP) problem where a monopolist sells bundles of products to customers, and the price of each bundle depends only on the size (number of items) of the bundle. Although this pricing mechanism is attractive in practice, finding optimal bundle prices is difficult since it involves characterizing distributions of the maximum partial sums of order statistics. In this paper, we propose to solve the BSP problem under a discrete choice model using only the first and second moments of customer valuations. Correlations between valuations of bundles are captured by the cross moments. We show that the BSP problem under this model is convex and can be efficiently solved using off-the-shelf solvers. Our approach is flexible in optimizing prices for any given bundle sizes. Numerical results show that it performs very well compared with state-of-the-art heuristics. This provides a unified and efficient approach to solve the BSP problem under various distributions and dimensions.

Book Description
This volume contains a selection of papers referring to lectures presented at the symposium "Operations Research 2003" (OR03) held at the Ruprecht Karls-Universitiit Heidelberg, September 3 - 5, 2003. This international con ference took place under the auspices of the German Operations Research So ciety (GOR) and of Dr. Erwin Teufel, prime minister of Baden-Wurttemberg. The symposium had about 500 participants from countries all over the world. It attracted academians and practitioners working in various field of Opera tions Research and provided them with the most recent advances in Opera tions Research and related areas in Economics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. The program consisted of 4 plenary and 13 semi-plenary talks and more than 300 contributed papers selected by the program committee to be presented in 17 sections. Due to a limited number of pages available for the proceedings volume, the length of each article as well as the total number of accepted contributions had to be restricted. Submitted manuscripts have therefore been reviewed and 62 of them have been selected for publication. This refereeing procedure has been strongly supported by the section chairmen and we would like to express our gratitude to them. Finally, we also would like to thank Dr. Werner Muller from Springer-Verlag for his support in publishing this proceedings volume.
