Book Description
In 1960 the Polish mathematician Zdzidlaw Opial (1930--1974) published an inequality involving integrals of a function and its derivative. This volume offers a systematic and up-to-date account of developments in Opial-type inequalities. The book presents a complete survey of results in the field, starting with Opial's landmark paper, traversing through its generalizations, extensions and discretizations. Some of the important applications of these inequalities in the theory of differential and difference equations, such as uniqueness of solutions of boundary value problems, and upper bounds of solutions are also presented. This book is suitable for graduate students and researchers in mathematical analysis and applications.

Book Description
In 1909 Alfred Haar introduced into analysis a remarkable system which bears his name. The Haar system is a complete orthonormal system on [0,1] and the Fourier-Haar series for arbitrary continuous function converges uniformly to this function. This volume is devoted to the investigation of the Haar system from the operator theory point of view. The main subjects treated are: classical results on unconditional convergence of the Haar series in modern presentation; Fourier-Haar coefficients; reproducibility; martingales; monotone bases in rearrangement invariant spaces; rearrangements and multipliers with respect to the Haar system; subspaces generated by subsequences of the Haar system; the criterion of equivalence of the Haar and Franklin systems. Audience: This book will be of interest to graduate students and researchers whose work involves functional analysis and operator theory.

Book Description
The notion of singular quadratic form appears in mathematical physics as a tool for the investigation of formal expressions corresponding to perturbations devoid of operator sense. Numerous physical models are based on the use of Hamiltonians containing perturba tion terms with singular properties. Typical examples of such expressions are Schrodin ger operators with O-potentials (-~ + AD) and Hamiltonians in quantum field theory with perturbations given in terms of operators of creation and annihilation (P(

Book Description
Boolean valued analysis is a technique for studying properties of an arbitrary mathematical object by comparing its representations in two different set-theoretic models whose construction utilises principally distinct Boolean algebras. The use of two models for studying a single object is a characteristic of the so-called non-standard methods of analysis. Application of Boolean valued models to problems of analysis rests ultimately on the procedures of ascending and descending, the two natural functors acting between a new Boolean valued universe and the von Neumann universe.

Book Description
A number of optimization problems of the mechanics of space flight and the motion of walking robots and manipulators, and of quantum physics, eco momics and biology, have an irregular structure: classical variational proce dures do not formally make it possible to find optimal controls that, as we explain, have an impulse character. This and other well-known facts lead to the necessity for constructing dynamical models using the concept of a gener alized function (Schwartz distribution). The problem ofthe systematization of such models is very important. In particular, the problem of the construction of the general form of linear and nonlinear operator equations in distributions is timely. Another problem is related to the proper determination of solutions of equations that have nonlinear operations over generalized functions in their description. It is well-known that "the value of a distribution at a point" has no meaning. As a result the problem to construct the concept of stability for generalized processes arises. Finally, optimization problems for dynamic systems in distributions need finding optimality conditions. This book contains results that we have obtained in the above-mentioned directions. The aim of the book is to provide for electrical and mechanical engineers or mathematicians working in applications, a general and systematic treat ment of dynamic systems based on up-to-date mathematical methods and to demonstrate the power of these methods in solving dynamics of systems and applied control problems.

Book Description
This book concentrates on one- and multi-dimensional nonlinear integral and discrete Gronwall-Bellman type inequalities. It complements the author’s book on linear inequalities and serves as an essential tool for researchers interested in differential (ODE and PDE), difference, and integral equations. The present volume is part 2 of the author’s two-volume work on inequalities. Integral and discrete inequalities are a very important tool in classical analysis and play a crucial role in establishing the well-posedness of the related equations, i.e., differential, difference and integral equations.
