An Introduction to Global Spectral Modeling
Author: Tiruvalam Natarajan Krishnamurti
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA
ISBN: 0195094735
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
This is an introductory text on numerical weather prediction (numerically modelling the general circulation of the atmosphere), utilizing the spectral transform method. The book covers finite difference methods and time-differencing schemes; the theoretical development of the spectral transform method (using spherical surfaces rather than grids for determining variation in the elements of weather); physical processes; current issues in dynamical and physical initiation; and data analysis. Several practical examples of the spectral transform method are included.

Numerical Weather Prediction
Author: Venkata Bhaskar Rao Dodla
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000815552
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 267
Book Description
Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) is the current state-of-art methodology to provide weather prediction at different spatial and time scales to serve user community. The NWP uses a modeling system built up adopting the mathematical equations governing atmospheric motion, incorporating the physical processes through parameterization methods, solved applying numerical methods and carrying out large number-crunching calculations on high speed computers. The NWP products have their application in agriculture, aviation, transport, tourism, sports, industry, health, energy and many other social sectors. Several decision support systems of disaster management and risk assessment are dependent on meteorological information from NWP products. The purpose of this book is to present the basics of NWP in lucid form to those who seek an overview of the science of modern weather prediction. Print edition not for sale in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan or Bhutan).

Noise Analysis of a Limited-area Fine-mesh Prediction Model
Author: Joseph P. Gerrity
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Differential equations, Nonlinear
Languages : en
Pages : 92
Book Description
"A diagnostic study of the mechanism responsible for producing high wavenumber oscillations (noise)in the numerical solution of the nonlinear equations governing a free surface, barotropic, atmospheric model is reported. The oscillations are identified as predominantly the result of the lattice of the difference equations and the boundary conditions employed to specified the solution. The analytic methods employed involved the use of space and time sections of the numerical solutions to provide a set of hypotheses. These are tested utilizing a one-dimensional linear analog of the model equations. The solution of the linear equations is obtained analytically, by the method of characteristics, and numerically. Several possibilities for removing the noise are suggested. Some improvement is demonstrated when the suggested methods are used in the linear one-dimensional analog.

Climate Information for Public Health Action
Author: Madeleine C. Thomson
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351631101
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 213
Book Description
Policy-makers are increasingly concerned about the impact of climate variability and change on the health of vulnerable populations. Variations and trends in climatic factors and extreme weather events impact many health outcomes, including malaria, heat stress and undernutrition. Climate Information for Public Health Action is based on the premise that climate knowledge and information can help protect the public from climate-sensitive health risks. With a focus on infectious disease, hydro-meteorological disasters and nutrition, the book explores why, when and how data on the historical, current and future (from days to decades) climate can be incorporated into health decision-making. Created as a collaborative effort between climate and health experts, this book targets a broad technical public health community, alongside development practitioners and policy-makers engaged in climate change adaptation. It may also guide climate experts in the development of climate services tailored to health needs. Written in an accessible, informative style, while maintaining the highest technical and scientific standards, it will also be a valuable resource for students and academics studying and working in the emerging field of environment and health. The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.tandfebooks.com/doi/view/10.4324/9781315115603, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license."
