Book Description
Arizona's location on the international border to Mexico gave it the dubious distinction of being the #1 drug import capital of the United States in the 1970's. In an effort to eradicate the flow of illicit drugs into the country, along with the crimes and violence accompanying them, a hand- picked group culled from various statewide law enforcement agencies were brought together to form an elite narcotics Strike Force that was the first of its kind in the nation. The Strike Force had one major mandate: to identify, arrest and stop those involved in the importation, distribution and sales of illicit drugs throughout the deserts, mountains, cities and towns of southern Arizona. Tucson Police Officer Neil Tietjen. a native New Yorker and Marine Corps veteran who had served in the Viet Nam War, was one of the initial agents chosen for the assignment to the new interagency Strike Force.A memoir culled from Neil Tietjen's own police reports and personal journals, "Old School Narc" chronicles in often pulse-pounding, heart-wrenching detail how he and his fellow Strike Force agents pioneered undercover drug investigations across a vast and inhospitable urban and wilderness landscape. In that pre-internet, pre-cellphone and pre-law enforcement technology era, Strike Force agents investigated and pursued their prey, 'Old School'; succeeding in their missions and staying alive with little more than their wits, badges, guns and massive amounts of tenacity and courage."Old School Narc" provides an insider's view of what it was like to live and work behind the badge; undercover and in disguise while leading parallel lives among heinous drug traffickers whom violence and death were simply the tools of their trade. Along with his fellow agents, Neil Tietjen went above and beyond the call of duty to make the streets of his country safer, without sacrificing his humility, compassion or sense of humor in the progress.

Book Description
“In a raw and unflinching account that details his harrowing journey as whistleblower in the Fast and Furious federal scandal, Forcelli shows the public and personal cost of standing up for justice.” —Jonathan Green, author of Sex Money Murder: A Story of Crack, Blood, and Betrayal Pete Forcelli was a highly respected federal agent in New York City, where he made an impact on violent crime by successfully targeting some of the city’s most violent street gangs by using federal racketeering and continuing criminal enterprise statutes in conjunction with federal prosecutors. In early 2007, he was promoted to a supervisory position in Phoenix and quickly discovered that federal prosecutors were not charging criminals for violating federal firearms laws, even in instances where they knew guns were being trafficked to ultra-violent drug cartels and then used in crimes that were shocking to the conscience. When those very same prosecutors spoke about possibly indicting John Dodson, a special agent who blew the whistle on Operation Fast and Furious, Forcelli stepped forward and contacted Congress. Forcelli became a whistleblower himself, detailing how federal prosecutors in Arizona not only failed to prosecute gun traffickers, but allowed a man who was making hundreds of hand grenades for the Sinaloa Cartel to continue his operations unabated for years. At that moment, those prosecutors and officials from the Department of Justice came after him, leading to a nearly four-year battle for Forcelli to clear his name. This book provides his insider’s account of the scandal that stands as one of the worst stains on federal law enforcement.

Book Description
The United States Narcotic Farm opened in 1935 in the rolling hills of Kentucky horse country. Portrayed in the press as everything from a "New Deal for the drug addict" to a "million-dollar flophouse for junkies," the sprawling art deco facility was equal parts federal prison, treatment center, working farm, and research laboratory. Its mission was to rehabilitate addicts, who were increasingly criminalized and incarcerated as a result of strict new drug laws, and to discover a cure for opiate addiction. This richly illustrated book offers an important history of this progressive yet ultimately doomed experiment. "Narco," as the locals called it, pioneered new treatments such as prescribing methadone to manage heroin withdrawal and developed drugs that blocked the action of opiates. The coed institution admitted federal prisoners as well as volunteers who checked themselves in for treatment, and through the years it hosted several legendary jazz musicians, including Chet Baker and Sonny Rollins, as well as actor Peter Lorre and writer William S. Burroughs. The facility ultimately closed in 1975 under a cloud as Congress learned that Narco researchers had recruited patients as test subjects for CIA-funded LSD experiments from 1953 to 1962, part of the notorious project MK-Ultra. Featuring a new foreword by Sam Quinones, The Narcotic Farm offers a vital perspective on US drug policy, addiction, and incarceration as the nation struggles with a new opioid epidemic.

Book Description
SYNOPSIS: John Doyle, a university student from the small Southern Ontario town of Kindler, one day received a letter from the government asking him to attend an exclusive meeting that would change his life forever. It leads him and his best friend, Frank to become involved in the local drug scene as they are asked to work undercover by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. This takes John into a world before unknown to him, the world of drugs, violence and murder. The late 1960s, the time when this story takes place, are years in which turn on and tune out is the motto. John and his friends are trying to counteract this culture by developing a teen group that plans, finances and builds its own drop-in centre. The ideals of a Christian raised young man clash with the ideals of a fringe element in the town. During his investigations John helps the Mounties discover and take down the largest drug ring in Ontario. This comes with a cost. In this book the small town mentality is examined as well as the impact of the drug culture which transforms the community. John finally has to reveal his undercover work to the love of his life, Susan, and involve his own father to help capture the drug dealers who feed on the weaknesses of the young people of the town.
