Book Description
Only one European had ever gained entrance into the Crystal Cave and lived. He had been accepted many years before after a great battle, and after he had shape shifted into hummingbirds form avoiding coyotes fangs and Eagles claws in the most deadly game on earth, just in case you think that the shamans sitting in an astro-planned circle got there by watching Disney cartoons. Just checking.from Sojourn in the land of the Sun; the Romance of Tim Doughty Tim Doughty, a Northwest Coast journalist and recent transplant to the New Mexican community, seeks both solace and advice from an elderly Hispanic Norteno friend during a brief separation from his wife Teresa. During numerous visits within Joseph and Sophies old adobe casa, the two men navigate the major issues of our times. Joseph instructs Tim how to build the House of Love. Tim has discovered his elderly friend is none other than the hidden ruler, the King of the Old Nuevo Mexico Territory. Book Description
Few developments in the history of the Spanish colonial system in Mexico have been more carelessly treated or more often misinterpreted than the attempt to establish constitutional government in New Spain under the Spanish monarchy during the 1809–1814 and 1820–1822 periods. Yet the broad outlines of the Mexican constitutional system were laid then, largely through the insistent efforts of the Mexican deputies to the Cortes, the Spanish legislative body. Some of the delegates also grasped this opportunity to inform their countrymen and train them in the effectiveness of parliamentary debate and resolution as a more intelligent road to democratic and representative government. The 70 Mexican deputies (of the 160 elected) who actively participated in the sessions of the Cortes either helped draw up the Constitution of 1812, which initiated provisions for many needed reforms relating to military, religious, economic, educational, judicial, and governmental affairs in Mexico, or contributed to the enabling acts consequent to these provisions. The prime reason for calling the Cortes, however, and especially for inviting the participation of the Mexicans, was to attempt to maintain New Spain’s loyalty to the mother country, an unrealized objective in the long run, although much constructive discussion of this goal was offered by the Mexican delegates. These eight essays trace the establishment and implementation of the Mexican electoral system, both national and municipal, and of reforms in the economic, journalistic, religious, and military systems. They serve as an informative introduction to the revolutionary role the Cortes of Spain played in Mexican history and as a record of the contribution of Mexican delegates to the beginning of liberal reform in their country.

Book Description
The great cowboy phenomenon of the American West began with the Spanish exploration and settlement of New Mexico more than 400 years ago. Enduring Cowboys explores the advent of the vaquero in sixteenth-century New Mexico and continues through the years to the authentic working cowboy of today. Essays by some of the state's most knowledgeable writers examine many issues confronting the contemporary cowboy, including environmentalism, technology, and economics and the threats they pose to the historically entrenched cowboy lifestyle. Also explored is the romanticization of the cowboy in popular culture. New Mexico cowboys come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds--Native American, Anglo, and African American as well as Hispanic. And some New Mexico 'cowboys' are women. Included in addition to the essays are biographical vignettes accompanied by portraits of individual working cowboys and cowgirls, along with numerous color and historical photographs. The contributors include John Sinclair, J. Michael Miller, Steve Terrell, Joel Bernstein, Steve Larese, Conroy Chino, Cathy Nelson, Jane O'Cain, Kathryn Marmon, and the editor.
