Novel Route to Transition Metal Isothiocyanate Complexes Using Metal Powders and Thiourea
Author: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781721587261
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 40
Book Description
A new synthetic route to isothiocyanate-containing materials is presented. Eight isothiocyanate- 4-methylpyridine (y-picoline) compounds were prepared by refluxing metal powders (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) with thiourea in y-picoline. With the exception of compound 5,prepared with Co, the isothiocyanate ligand was generated in situ by the isomerization of thiourea to NH4+SCN- at reflux temperatures. The complexes were characterized by x-ray crystallography. Compounds 1,2, and 8 are the first isothiocyanate- 4-methylpyridine anionic compounds ever prepared and structurally characterized. Compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural with four equatorially bound isothiocyanate ligands and two axially bound y-picoline molecules. Compound 8 is a five-coordinate copper(II) molecule with a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Coordinated picoline and two isothiocyanates form the basal plane and the remaining isothiocyanate is bound at the apex. Structural data are presented for all compounds. Harris, Jerry D. and Eckles, William E. and Hepp, Aloysius F. and Duraj, Stan A. and Hehemann, David G. and Fanwick, Phillip E. and Richardson, John Glenn Research Center NASA/TP-2003-211890, E-13573, NAS 1.60:211890

Density Functional Calculations
Author: Gang Yang
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789231329
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 274
Book Description
Density functional theory (DFT) ranks as the most widely used quantum mechanical method and plays an increasingly larger role in a number of disciplines such as chemistry, physics, material, biology, and pharmacy. DFT has long been used to complement experimental investigations, while now it is also regarded as an indispensable and powerful tool for researchers of different fields. This book is divided into five sections that include original chapters written by experts in their fields: "Method Development and Validation," "Spectra and Thermodynamics," "Catalysis and Mechanism," "Material and Molecular Design," and "Multidisciplinary Integration." I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all contributors and recommend this book to both beginners and experienced researchers.

Chemistry of Tin
Author: P.J. Smith
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401149380
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 592
Book Description
In common with the editor of the first edition, my own personal involvement with tin chemistry began when I had the privilege of studying for a PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Alwyn G. Davies FRS at University College London (UCL) almost exactly 30 years ago. Then, following 21 years' service with the International Tin Research Institute, it was a great pleasure for me when the wheel turned full circle and, in 1994, Alwyn - now an Emeritus Professor - asked me to return to UCL as an Honorary Research Fellow in the Chemistry Department. One of my first tasks was when I received an invitation from Blackie A&P to edit the second edition of the Chemistry of Tin, which I was delighted to accept, since it enabled me to continued my life-long interest in tin chemistry and to maintain contact with my former friends and colleagues, many of whom have contributed to this book.

Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1626363765
Category : House & Home
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
Does the identification number 60 indicate a toxic substance or a flammable solid, in the molten state at an elevated temperature? Does the identification number 1035 indicate ethane or butane? What is the difference between natural gas transmission pipelines and natural gas distribution pipelines? If you came upon an overturned truck on the highway that was leaking, would you be able to identify if it was hazardous and know what steps to take? Modern Applications of Cycloaddition Chemistry
Author: Paolo Quadrelli
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128152745
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 354
Book Description
Modern Applications of Cycloaddition Chemistry examines this area of organic chemistry, with special attention paid to cycloadditions in synthetic and mechanistic applications in modern organic chemistry. While many books dedicated to cycloaddition reactions deal with the synthesis of heterocycles, general applications, specific applications in natural product synthesis, and the use of a class of organic compounds, this work sheds new light on pericyclic reactions by demonstrating how these valuable tools elegantly solve synthetic and mechanistic problems. The work examines how pericyclic reactions have been extensively applied to different chemistry areas, such as chemical biology, biological processes, catalyzed cycloaddition reactions, and more. This work will be useful for organic chemists who deal with organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, agrochemistry and material chemistry. - Provides details on the synthesis of antiviral and anticancer compounds, marking the key role of unconventional catalyzed cycloaddition reactions for preparing new derivatives in a unique reaction pathway that is scalable in industrial processes - Contains the most up-to-date review of the use of pericyclic reactions in drug delivery - Includes the enzyme-catalyzed processes involving cycloaddition reactions for different targets, demonstrating that cycloaddition is more common in nature than expected - Features new applications for cycloadditions in material chemistry and provides a general view of the most recent results in the area
