Ramanujan Summation of Divergent Series
Author: Bernard Candelpergher
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319636308
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 211
Book Description
The aim of this monograph is to give a detailed exposition of the summation method that Ramanujan uses in Chapter VI of his second Notebook. This method, presented by Ramanujan as an application of the Euler-MacLaurin formula, is here extended using a difference equation in a space of analytic functions. This provides simple proofs of theorems on the summation of some divergent series. Several examples and applications are given. For numerical evaluation, a formula in terms of convergent series is provided by the use of Newton interpolation. The relation with other summation processes such as those of Borel and Euler is also studied. Finally, in the last chapter, a purely algebraic theory is developed that unifies all these summation processes. This monograph is aimed at graduate students and researchers who have a basic knowledge of analytic function theory.

Geostatistics Notes for Practitioners
Author: Glen Nwaila
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1040105165
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 305
Book Description
This book provides a practical perspective of all the processes involved in estimating mineral resources and reserves, including mine-to-mill reconciliation. It provides an integrated step-by-step explanation of processes for performing each step, including insight from academic and industry practitioners. Each chapter details a specific aspect of the estimation processes in a practical manner. It contains examples and case studies to illustrate the practical application of geostatistics in mineral resource estimation, mineral reserve conversion, and reconciliation. Features Provides a step-by-step guide with over 10,000 lines of Python code for hands-on demonstration, from start to finish, for both linear and non-linear geostatistical methods. Explains practical geostatistics processes and functionality. Simplifies explanation of mathematical /statistical concepts and application. Discusses generalised examples to aid the process steps. Reviews processes involved in the mineral resources’ estimation and ore reserve conversion. This book is intended for third-year and postgraduate students in Mineral Resources Management, Geology, Spatial Statistics, and Mining Engineering, as well as practising professionals.

Sonar and Underwater Acoustics
Author: Jean-Paul Marage
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118600657
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 590
Book Description
Sonar and Underwater Acoustics brings together all the concepts necessary for designers and users of sonar systems. Unlike other books on this subject, which are often too specialized, this book is accessible to a wider audience. The first part focuses on the acoustic environment, antenna structures, and electric acoustic interface. The latter provides knowledge required to design, as well as the development and implementation of chain processes for an active sonar from the conditioning input to output processing. The reader will find a comprehensive range of all problems encountered in underwater acoustics for a sonar application, from physical phenomena governing the environment and the corresponding constraints, through to the technical definition of transducers and antennas, and the types of signal processing involved. In one section, measures in underwater acoustics are also proposed.

Understanding Biplots
Author: John C. Gower
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119972906
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 504
Book Description
Biplots are a graphical method for simultaneously displaying two kinds of information; typically, the variables and sample units described by a multivariate data matrix or the items labelling the rows and columns of a two-way table. This book aims to popularize what is now seen to be a useful and reliable method for the visualization of multidimensional data associated with, for example, principal component analysis, canonical variate analysis, multidimensional scaling, multiplicative interaction and various types of correspondence analysis. Understanding Biplots: • Introduces theory and techniques which can be applied to problems from a variety of areas, including ecology, biostatistics, finance, demography and other social sciences. • Provides novel techniques for the visualization of multidimensional data and includes data mining techniques. • Uses applications from many fields including finance, biostatistics, ecology, demography. • Looks at dealing with large data sets as well as smaller ones. • Includes colour images, illustrating the graphical capabilities of the methods. • Is supported by a Website featuring R code and datasets. Researchers, practitioners and postgraduate students of statistics and the applied sciences will find this book a useful introduction to the possibilities of presenting data in informative ways.
