Book Description
This illustrated volume contains two Viking, or Norse, sagas rewritten especially for older children and young adults presented in an easy-to-read novella format. Herein are the stories of Frithiof and the epic Beowulf. These stories are from a time when men were knighted for achieving great feats, and great their feats were. A time when the successful application of brain and brawn gained a man a high standing in his community and possibly even higher office in the land. The first retelling, "The Story of Frithiof" is based upon Holcomb's translation of Bishop Tegnér's poem, "The Saga of Frithiof" which charts Frithiof’s and Ingeborg’s undying love for each other and the lengths Frithiof had to go to, to eventually win her hand. If ever a story was to teach the young about perseverance and endurance, this is it. The second retelling, that of the epic Beowulf, has also been rewritten in an easy reading novella format. It follows the life of Beowulf, his rites of passage and his maturing from boy to man through facing and overcoming adversity and evil through facing up to and defeating the evil dragon Grendel. This fictional saga was written in England, but is set in Scandinavia. It has variously been dated to between the 8th and the early 11th centuries. It is our hope the records of these lives nobly lived are an inspiration to noble living in today’s youth. With the hope that the courage, truth, endurance, reverence, and patriotism shown by these heroes of the Northland will arouse interest and result in emulation. 10% of the publisher’s profit from the sale from this book will be donated to Charities. ============= KEYWORDS: folklore, fairy, Tales, children, stories, bedtime, fables, illustrated, myths, legends, Frithjof, Ingeborg, king, death, expulsion, banishment, Ingeborg, daughter, Halfdan, Helgi, Ring, Baldrshagi, marry, Hilding, tribute, Baldr, balder, Beli, Sogn, Ringerike, Ring, foster-brother, foster-father, tradition, Víkingsson, perseverance, courage, truth, endurance, reverence, patriotism, Beowulf, Hrothgar, Grendel, dragon, mother, evil, Heorot, battle, sword, warriors, lair, attack, Wiglaf, hall, funeral, Geatsland, hero, celebrate, mortally wounded, Earnanæs, treasure, Hrunting, monster, wounded, Unferth, barrow, burial, night, lake, sea, boat, longship, grief-stricken, fire-breathing, violent, brotherhood, protagonist, revenge, terrorized, terrorise,

Book Description
The THIRD BOOK OF DRAGONS is the third installment following in the footsteps of Edith Nesbit’s “The Book of Dragon’s” and John Halsted’s compilation “The Second book of Dragons”. Here, John Halsted, author and folklorist, has compiled “The Third Book of Dragons” from numerous sources. In this book you will find 12 illustrated tales of dragons and serpents drawn from the mists of time. Some are friendly dragons which provide wisdom and direction to the heroes of our stories. Others are downright wicked, oozing malice and evil, leaving the hero of the story no option but to destroy the spiteful, fire-breathing, beast. Our heroes always sally forth wilfully, but cautiously, engaging these ancient creatures to save a damsel in distress, or their families, from sure destruction and banishment to oblivion. Herein you will find the stories of: Orestes And The Dragon The Three Princes, The Three Dragons, & The Old Woman With The Iron Nose The Dragon's Teeth The Hunting Princes The Student Who Was Forcibly Made King Vitazko The Victorious The Three Princes Batcha And The Dragon Shepherd Paul The Dragon-Giant And His Stone-Steed The Semi-Sentimental Dragon The Dragon Of Wantley These tales have been drawn from old and forgotten books often with their original illustrations. We invite you to download this book and sit back and enjoy a romp through the middle-ages and medieval times when people really did believe in Dragons which could fly and breathe fire. ============== KEWORDS/TAGS: folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, children's stories, bedtime stories, children’s stories, tales, tails, fables, compilation, dragons tales, boys, dragons and serpents, stories as old as time, wisdom, direction, malevolent, wicked, oozing, evil, malice, hero, knight in shining armor, saving, damsel in distress, prince, princess, banish, oblivion, tyranny, dictator, 12 dragon stories, Orestes, Three Princes, Three Dragons, Old Woman, Iron Nose, Dragon's Teeth, Hunting Princes, Student, Forced, King, Queen, Princess, Vitazko The Victorious, Batcha, Shepherd Paul, Dragon-Giant, Stone-Steed, Semi-Sentimental, Dragon Of Wantley, children’s book, fire breathing

Book Description
For centuries the songs of Homer, the blind poet of Greece, recounting the heroic deeds of the great Hector and lion-hearted Achilles, have delighted the children, young and old, of many lands. But part of our own heritage, and nearer to us in race and time, are these stories of Beowulf and Frithiof (Fridtjhof). The records of lives nobly lived are an inspiration to noble living. With the hope that the courage, truth, endurance, reverence, and patriotism shown by these heroes of the Northland will arouse interest and emulation. This little book is offered to our young adults and children. "The Story of Frithiof" is based upon Holcomb's translation of Bishop Tegner's poem, "The Saga of Frithiof" which charts Frithiof's and Ingeborg's undying love for each other and the lengths Frithiof had to go to, to eventually win her hand. If ever a story was to teach the young about perseverance and endurance, this is it. The epic Beowulf was written in England, but is set in Scandinavia. It has variously been dated to between the 8th and the early 11th centuries. The original is an epic poem told in historical perspective; a story of epic events and of great people of a heroic past. It follows the life of Beowulf, his rites of passage and his maturing from boy to man through facing and overcoming adversity and evil. This was the time when men were knighted for achieving great feats, and great their feats were. A time when the successful application of brain and brawn gained a man high standing in the community and possibly even higher office in the land. 33% of the net profit from this book will be donated to charity.

Book Description
The medieval Norse-Icelandic saga is one of the most important European vernacular literary genres of the Middle Ages. This Introduction to the saga genre outlines its origins and development, its literary character, its material existence in manuscripts and printed editions, and its changing reception from the Middle Ages to the present time. Its multiple sub-genres - including family sagas, mythical-heroic sagas and sagas of knights - are described and discussed in detail, and the world of medieval Icelanders is powerfully evoked. The first general study of the Old Norse-Icelandic saga to be written in English for some decades, the Introduction is based on up-to-date scholarship and engages with current debates in the field. With suggestions for further reading, detailed information about the Icelandic literary canon, and a map of medieval Iceland, this book is aimed at students of medieval literature and assumes no prior knowledge of Scandinavian languages.
