Book Description
This report constitutes the main outputs of the project “Pathways to a Nordic food system that contributes to reduced emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants”. The overall goals are to present the baseline data regarding the Nordic agricultural sector, its greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions, the regulatory framework and support systems, and conflicts of interest. The report aims to describe pathways to a Nordic food system that contributes to achieving the climate target of below 2 (or 1.5) degrees of warming and the air pollution target of zero exceedance of critical loads and critical levels regarding ammonia emissions. The Nordic region has diverse geological and climatic conditions that make certain types of agricultural production more vulnerable than others. The policy recommendations aim to serve as input to different policies at EU, Nordic and national level.

Future Nordic Diets:
Author: Johan Karlsson
Publisher: Nordic Council of Ministers
ISBN: 9289352574
Category : Young Adult Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 98
Book Description
Farming is the foundation of our food system. While the prerequisite for farming is a clean environment and a diverse nature, agriculture is currently the cause of major environmental problems, including greenhouse gas and nitrogen emissions. The challenge to protect our environment and feed the world sometimes seem insurmountable, but solutions might be just around the corner. This report describes two food system scenarios for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, where the majority of food is produced within the region using organic farming practices and where livestock is mainly fed on grass and by-products not suitable for human consumption. The results show that we could feed the projected Nordic population in 2030 on organic food, mostly grown within the region, while reducing the climate and nitrogen footprints of our food system.

Cookbook for systems change – Nordic innovation strategies for sustainable food systems
Author: Halloran, Afton
Publisher: Nordic Council of Ministers
ISBN: 9289367407
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 69
Book Description
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/nord2020-048/ This cookbook of strategies for change is about the role that a strong public innovation system plays along the pathways towards sustainable food systems. We demonstrate this through a mission approach for deliberate food system transformation that can support people, planet and society. This strategy cookbook will provide the ingredients – templates for developing interventions, guides for how to get started and examples of cross-cutting projects – that you can use to create your own recipes for change. We offer a new, emergent way to work with complex and dynamic systems. The cookbook is intended primarily for national and regional innovation agencies, as the government has both a mandate and more authority than any other entity to lead the change needed to achieve sustainable food systems. However, because innovation ecosystems include a variety of different actors, this strategy cookbook also provides valuable insights into the roles that entrepreneurs and civil society and research organisations can play to cultivate change from the bottom-up.

The Versatile Farmers of the North
Author: Victor Condorcét Vinje
Publisher: Booktango
ISBN: 1468942697
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 71
Book Description
This book deals with the largely forgotten and neglected role of the Norwegian yeomen during the constitutional work of 1814. Their political campaigning is related to their increasingly prominent economic position within Norwegian -- and European -- society in the Age of Democratic revolution. The extent to which the ideas of the Enlightenment reached the rural population in this part of Europe, is analyzed along with Nordic topographic issues in general, as well as the radical and libertarian constitutional drafts presented by the yeomen at Eidsvoll in 1814. The role of the new Swedish "revolutionary king", Charles John (Bernadotte) is also discussed in a new light, based on his revolutionary past and his break with Napoleon.
