Book Description
Written by legal legend Christopher Darden, who gained nationwide fame as one of the prosecuting attorneys during the O.J. Simpson trial, L.A. Justice is a hard-driving thriller, crafted with an insider’s understanding that real justice is always dirty. Randy Bingham wakes in the dark, with his head throbbing, his memory blank, and a body on the floor. It’s Sherri Dietz, his fiancée, and she was killed with Randy’s gun. A spacey romantic with a mile-long streak of Catholic guilt, Randy Bingham is about to become chief suspect in the trial of the century, and he doesn’t remember a thing. The case falls in the lap of Virgil Sykes, a hard-nosed police detective, who works with high-flying District Attorney Nikki Hill to learn what really happened in that darkened, bloody room. With the help of Sherri’s son, a ten-year-old computer whiz who was hiding upstairs when his mother was murdered, Virgil and Nikki stumble onto a wide-ranging conspiracy that threatens to undermine the very foundations of the LAPD.

Book Description
Sacred Justice is a cross-genre book that uses narrative, memoir, unpublished letters, and other primary and secondary sources to tell the story of a group of Armenian men who organized Operation Nemesis, a covert operation created to assassinate the Turkish architects of the Armenian Genocide. The leaders of Operation Nemesis took it upon themselves to seek justice for their murdered families, friends, and compatriots. Sacred Justice includes a large collection of previously unpublished letters, found in the upstairs study of the author's grandfather, Aaron Sachaklian, one of the leaders of Nemesis, that show the strategies, personalities, plans, and dedication of Soghomon Tehlirian, who killed Talaat Pasha, a genocide leader; Shahan Natalie, the agent on the ground in Europe; Armen Garo, the center of Operation Nemesis; Aaron Sachaklian, the logistics and finance officer; and others involved with Nemesis. Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy tells a story that has been either hidden by the necessity of silence or ignored in spite of victims' narratives—the story of those who attempted to seek justice for the victims of genocide and the effect this effort had on them and on their families. Ultimately, this volume reveals how the narratives of resistance and trauma can play out in the next generation and how this resistance can promote resilience.

Book Description
Justice is a human virtue that is at once unconditional and conditional. Under favorable circumstances, we can be motivated to act justly by the belief that we must live up to what justice requires, irrespective of whether we benefit from doing so. But our will to act justly is subject to conditions. We find it difficult to exercise the virtue of justice when others regularly fail to. Even if we appear to have overcome the difficulty, our reluctance often betrays itself in certain moral emotions. In this book, Jiwei Ci explores the dual nature of justice, in an attempt to make unitary sense of key features of justice reflected in its close relation to resentment, punishment, and forgiveness. Rather than pursue a search for normative principles, he probes the human psychology of justice to understand what motivates moral agents who seek to behave justly, and why their desire to be just is as precarious as it is uplifting. A wide-ranging treatment of enduring questions, The Two Faces of Justice can also be read as a remarkably discerning contribution to the Western discourse on justice re-launched in our time by John Rawls.

Book Description
Drawing on the findings of a comparative research project, this volume tackles a set of intricate questions about the workings of impunity in India. How do victims of abuse and survivors of sexual violence end up being denied justice? What do those on the margins—those with the wrong sex, wrong identity markers, wrong political leanings— tell us about violence by state and non-state actors? Bringing together senior academics, civil society leaders and fresh voices from the across India, the volume offers analysis — contextual, structural and gendered — and breaks new conceptual ground on the underbelly of India Shining. The volume contains testimonies that were collected during fieldwork in four Indian states. Published by Zubaan.
