Book Description
This thesis reports the reconstruction and lifetime measurement of B+, B$0/atop{d}$ and B$0/atop{s}$ mesons, performed using fully reconstructed hadronic decays collected by a dedicated trigger at CDF II experiment. This dedicated trigger selects significantly displaced tracks from primary vertex of p$\bar{p}$ collisions generated at Tevatron collider, obtaining, in this way, huge data samples enriched of long-lived particles, and is therefore suitable for reconstruction of B meson in hadronic decay modes. Due to the trigger track impact parameter selections, the proper decay time distributions of the B mesons no longer follow a simply exponential decay law. This complicates the lifetime measurement and requires a correct understanding and treatment of all the involved effects to keep systematic uncertainties under control. This thesis presents a method to extract the lifetime of B mesons in "ct- biased" samples, based on a Monte Carlo approach, to correct for the effects of the trigger and analysis selections. We present the results of this method when applied on fully re- constructed decays of B collected by CDF II in the data taking runs up to August 2004, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 360 pb-1. The lifetimes are extracted using the decay modes B+ 2!$\bar{D}$0[pi]+, B$0\atop{d}$ 2!D-[pi]+, B$0\atop{d}$ 2!D-[pi]+[pi]-[pi]+, B$0\atop{s}$ 2!D$-\atop{s}$[pi]+ and B$0\atop{s}$ 2!D$-\atop{s}$ [pi]+[pi]-[pi]+(and c.c.) and performing combined mass-lifetime unbinned maximum likelihood fits.

Book Description
This thesis presents first measurements of moments of the hadronic nX2 distribution measured in inclusive semileptonic decays of B mesons to final states containing a charm quark, B 2!Xcl[nu]. The variable nX2 is a combination of the invariant mass of the charmed meson mX, its energy in the B-meson rest-frame EX;BRF, and a constant ~[Lambda] = 0.65 GeV, nX2 = mX2c4-2~[Lambda]EX, BRF + ~[Lambda]2. The moments nXk with k = 2,4,6 are measured as proposed by theory to constrain assumptions made in the theoretical description of inclusive observables in semileptonic B-meson decays. This description uses Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE), an effective QCD combined with an Operator Product Expansion. The measurement is based on a sample of 231.6 million e+e- 2![Upsilon](4S) 2!B$\bar{B}$ events recorded with the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e+e--storage rings at SLAC. We reconstruct the semileptonic decay by identifying a charged lepton in events tagged by a fully reconstructed hadronic decay of the second B meson. Correction procedures are derived from Monte Carlo simulations to ensure an unbiased measurement of the moments of the nX2 distribution. All moments are measured requiring minimum lepton momenta between 0.8 GeV/c and 1.9 GeV/c in the rest frame of the B meson. Performing a simultaneous fit to the measured moments nXk up to order k = 6 combined with other measurements of moments of the lepton-energy spectrum in decays B 2!Xcl[nu] and moments of the photon-energy spectrum in decays B 2!Xs[gamma], we determine the quark-mixing parameter.

Book Description
The B[sup 0] and B[sup+] meson lifetimes have been measured in e[sup+]e[sup -] annihilation data collected in 1999 and 2000 with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies near the[Upsilon](4S) resonance. Events are selected in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic final state while the second B meson is reconstructed inclusively. A combined fit to the B[sup 0] and the B[sup+] decay time difference distributions yields[tau][sub B[sup 0]]= 1.546[+-] 0.032 (stat)[+-] 0.022 (syst) ps, [tau][sub B[sup+]]= 1.673[+-] 0.032 (stat)[+-] 0.023 (syst) ps and[tau][sub B[sup+]]/[tau][sub B[sup 0]]= 1.082[+-] 0.026 (stat)[+-] 0.012 (syst).

Book Description
The CDF detector at the Tevatron Collider (Fermilab) has collected data from 1992 to 1995. During these years they performed several measurements by using B hadronic decays. All the analysis exploited lepton triggers. The new measurements the authors present here are on radiative B decays B → K{sup 0*}?, B → {var_phi}? and??. They show also preliminary study for the determination of the branching ratios B → J/?K?+?− and B →?{sub c} (1P) K+. In view of Run II they discuss CDF reaches using fully reconstructed B hadronic decays. This is done by scaling the number of events and the efficiencies found in Run I without rely on Monte Carlo simulation whenever it is possible.

Book Description
Lifetimes and masses of B mesons have been measured in exclusively reconstructed decays including J/? →? decays. In 19.3 pb−1 of {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV taken in 19920--93 at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, approximately 300 B mesons have been fully reconstructed. The measurements require precise determination of the helical track parameters of charged particle tracks. We find M(B{sub S}{sup O}) = 5367.7 ± 2.4 ± 4.8 MeV/c2,?(B+) = 1.61 ± 0.16 ± 0.05 ps, and?(B{sup O}) = 1.57 ± 0.18 ± 0.08 ps.

Book Description
The CDF II detector has the capability of triggering on displaced tracks. Because of this ability, CDF II has accrued large samples of charged meson decays to fully hadronic final states in 64 pb[sup -1] of p[bar p] collision data gathered at[radical]s= 1.96 TeV. Using initial Run II data samples, the production cross sections for J/[psi], D[sup 0], D[sup+], D*[sup+] and D[sub s][sup+] mesons have been measured. Ratios of branching ratios for Cabibbo suppressed final states and CP asymmetries in D[sup 0] meson decays have been studied. A measurement of the mass difference m(D[sub s][sup+]) -m(D[sup+]) has been done, and a limit for the branching fraction of the FCNC D[sup 0][yields][mu][sup+][mu][sup -] decays has been set.

Book Description
After the Big Bang matter and antimatter were present in equal amounts. Today, however, everything we see, is made almost entirely of matter. A fundamental ingredient to explain this asymmetry between matter and antimatter is the violation of the CP (Charge Parity) symmetry. CP violation has been observed but quantitatively not enough to explain the huge asymmetry. The Belle II experiment in Japan studies the particles produced in electron-positron collisions at the SuperKEKB collider, the highest intensity collider in the World, allowing a high precision measurements of the known sources of CP violation and looking for new ones. In my PhD, I worked on measuring the CP violation in B meson radiative decays (decays with photon in final state) particularly promising thanks to their high sensitivity to possible new processes. Following this analysis, I started a new measurement of the B mesons lifetime where I could verify the robustness of the tools used in the CP violation measurement.
