Book Description
What happens in Aspen is definitely not staying in Aspen . . . A girls' trip to Aspen was exactly what Shay needed to forget about her toxic ex-boyfriend. She's got her girls, pristine slopes for skiing, and hot guys everywhere. Of course, her epic self-rediscovery goes completely to hell when a wild (and deliciously hot) skier knocks Shay on her ass . . . and war is declared. Kolton doesn't know what it is about Shay that makes him lose it. Not just his cool---although she does have an unholy gift for that---but his restraint. A Perfect Stranger
Author: Roxana Robinson
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 030743043X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 258
Book Description
In Roxana Robinson’s lucid and elegant prose, her characters’ inner worlds open up to us, revealing private emotional cores that are familiar in their needs, their secrets, and their longings. These people tell us the truth–not only about themselves, their relationships, and their lives, but about ourselves as well. In “Family Christmas,” a young girl takes a holiday trip to her grandparents’, where the formal atmosphere is shattered by a mysterious and chaotic event that she knows she’s too young to understand but struggles to comprehend. In “Blind Man,” a college professor copes with the onslaught of grief after his daughter’s death. In “The Face Lift,” two college friends renew their bond across a great cultural divide. The sad and hilarious “Assistance” flawlessly details the tragicomic aspects of ageing–seen through the eyes of a daughter-turned-caretaker. The terrors of illness are explored in “The Treatment,” and in “Assez,” a trip to Provence reveals the true volatility of love–and reminds us that we often don’t realize that what we have is enough until it’s gone. A Perfect Stranger powerfully and affectingly examines the complex, intricate network of experiences that binds us to one another. These stories are tender, raw, lovely, and fine–and they reaffirm Roxana Robinson’s place at the forefront of modern literature.

Book Description
For my second book, I only wanted one thing: To tell the truth. As a poet, I could write myself in and out of any fairytale I want and people would believe it. But what about those whose lives arent butterflies and lemon drops? What would they believe? I want this book to be relatable. I want people to know that there are other people out here who are struggling with their own secrets. Some the same and some not. I want to touch topics that many overlook or try to suppress. A chance to acknowledge the good and bad to life. I also want my followers to get to know who Deep Poetry is and how my life has not been perfect but an overwhelming struggle. Theres so much that people dont know and Im tired of hiding. This is me freeing myself from hiding in the shadows. Freeing myself from the pain of my past that still haunts and dictates my current state. This is me growing not because I really want to. But because I need to. As I write this Im in awe at the amount of hardships that Ive endured and now Im here. In this place. In a position in full control exposing myself. Exposing the rage, the hate, the happiness but, the pain; the pain will always be relevant. And Im okay with that. I want people to know that most of these poems hold more truth then one could imagine. This war, it wasnt easy as Ive been fighting it alone. But, I think its over. Here goes.

You and Yours
Author: Naomi Shihab Nye
Publisher: BOA Editions, Ltd.
ISBN: 9781929918690
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 92
Book Description
In You and Yours, Naomi Shihab Nye continues her conversation with ordinary people whose lives become, through her empathetic use of poetic language, extraordinary. Nye writes of local life in her inner-city Texas neighborhood, about rural schools and urban communities she's visited in this country, as well as the daily rituals of Jews and Palestinians who live in the war-torn Middle East. The Day I missed the day on which it was said others should not have certain weapons, but we could. Not only could, but should, and do. I missed that day. Was I sleeping? I might have been digging in the yard, doing something small and slow as usual. Or maybe I wasn't born yet. What about all the other people who aren't born? Who will tell them? Balancing direct language with a suggestive "aslantness," Nye probes the fragile connection between language and meaning. She never shies from the challenge of trying to name the mysterious logic of childhood or speak truth to power in the face of the horrors of war. She understands our lives are marked by tragedy, inequity, and misunderstanding, and that our best chance of surviving our losses and shortcomings is to maintain a heightened awareness of the sacred in all things. Naomi Shihab Nye, poet, editor, anthologist, is a recipient of writing fellowships from the Lannan and Guggenheim foundations. Nye's work has been featured on PBS poetry specials including NOW with Bill Moyers, The Language of Life with Bill Moyers, and The United States of Poetry. She has traveled abroad as a visiting writer on three Arts America tours sponsored by the United States Information Agency. In 2001 she received a presidential appointment to the National Council of the National Endowment for the Humanities. She lives in San Antonio, Texas.
