Book Description
Indian culture poses so many questions for me and you. Why do Asian women collect, store and deal in plastic tupperware boxes as if they are high risk narcotics? Why are we never on time? Why is it that we are so fixated on building 15 foot storey palatial extensions to our homes? By the beard of Zeus can someone please explain to me why "Saag" tastes better the next day? Why can't non-Asian people pronounce Indian names? What's even more amazing is, why do Asian people make up unrelated surreal English names instead?! Why can't Indian people pronounce words which have the letter "v" in it? Why do Indian people boast or pretend that they know everybody? I mean everybody! Why is it that no matter how well you did at school, your parents said that you could have always done better? These are just some of the mysteries of Indian culture that have baffled and frustrated me all my life. In this book are my personal thoughts and theories in figuring out why it is that I have 350 tins of baked beans under my bed ("just in case" according to my mums bulk shopping theory) and why I have come to embrace and sarcastically smile that this real Indian culture is what we can all relate to.

Anxiety Rx
Author: Russell Kennedy
Publisher: St. Martin's Essentials
ISBN: 125036597X
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 462
Book Description
From physician and neuroscientist Russell Kennedy, MD comes an award-winning book that offers a revolutionary, life-changing approach to healing anxiety. Break the cycle of anxiety with the newly upgraded and expanded second edition. After years of trying different therapies for his debilitating anxiety without success, Dr. Russell Kennedy had an epiphany: anxiety does not start in the brain. Anxiety starts in the body, where trauma is stored and physical and emotional perception begin. Alarm bells originating in the body are what trigger those anxious thoughts that we call anxiety, and Russ realized that true healing starts only when we learn not to conflate the two. He understood that existing therapies focused only on the mind would never get to the root of the problem—at best, they could help manage symptoms, but they’d never truly heal anxiety. Wanting to make a difference for the millions who suffer from anxiety disorder, Russ created Anxiety Rx, a book that blends his personal story with medical science, neuroscience, and developmental psychology. Readers learn how to sever the connection between the somatic alarm and the flood of anxious thoughts—in the process they begin to heal old trauma and gain a sense of control previously unknown. Russ offers techniques not only for our thinking minds, but for our feeling bodies, changing not just our mindset, but our “body-set.” Unraveling the intricate relationship between anxiety, the body, and the mind, Anxiety Rx offers a profound path toward healing and growth.

Marvel Comics
Author: Sean Howe
Publisher: Harper Collins
ISBN: 0062314696
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 569
Book Description
The defining, behind-the-scenes chronicle of one of the most extraordinary, beloved, and dominant pop cultural entities in America’s history -- Marvel Comics – and the outsized personalities who made Marvel including Martin Goodman, Stan Lee, and Jack Kirby. “Sean Howe’s history of Marvel makes a compulsively readable, riotous and heartbreaking version of my favorite story, that of how a bunch of weirdoes changed the world…That it’s all true is just frosting on the cake.” —Jonathan Lethem For the first time, Marvel Comics tells the stories of the men who made Marvel: Martin Goodman, the self-made publisher who forayed into comics after a get-rich-quick tip in 1939, Stan Lee, the energetic editor who would shepherd the company through thick and thin for decades and Jack Kirby, the WWII veteran who would co-create Captain America in 1940 and, twenty years later, developed with Lee the bulk of the company’s marquee characters in a three-year frenzy. Incorporating more than one hundred original interviews with those who worked behind the scenes at Marvel over a seventy-year-span, Marvel Comics packs anecdotes and analysis into a gripping narrative of how a small group of people on the cusp of failure created one of the most enduring pop cultural forces in contemporary America.

A Personal Stand
Author: Trace Adkins
Publisher: Ballantine Books
ISBN: 0345499344
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 290
Book Description
Country music superstar Trace Adkins isn’t exactly known for holding back what’s on his mind. And if the millions of albums he’s sold are any indication, when Trace talks, people listen. Now, in A Personal Stand, Trace Adkins delivers his maverick manifesto on politics, personal responsibility, fame, parenting, being true to yourself, hard work, and the way things oughta be. In his inimitable pull-no-punches style, Trace gives us the state of the union as he sees it, from the lessons of his boyhood in small-town Louisiana to what he’s learned headlining concerts around the world. Trace has worked oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, been shot in the heart, been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and braved perhaps the greatest challenge of all: being the father of five daughters. And shaped by these experiences, he’s sounding off. • I’m incredibly frustrated with the state of American politics. If there were a viable third party, I’d seriously consider joining it. • If anybody wonders who the good guys are and who the bad guys are in this world, just look at the way we teach our children as opposed to the way the fundamentalist Muslims teach their children. • Organized labor now exists for the sake of organized labor, and not for the workers it once protected. • I believe the easiest way to solve the illegal immigration enforcement problem is to go after the employers who hire illegal aliens. • As a society, we’re unwilling to sacrifice our luxuries and our conveniences in order to conserve. We won’t change until we’re forced to. • The war on terror is like herpes. People can live with it, but it’ll flare up from time to time. Brash, ballsy, persuasive, and controversial, A Personal Stand isn’t just the story of Trace Adkins’s life; it’s the story of what life can teach all of us.
