Book Description
Pepys’ Diary is a decade-long snapshot of the life of an up and coming naval administrator in mid-17th century London. In it he describes everything from battles against the Dutch and the intrigues of court, to the plays he saw, his marital infidelities, and the quality of the meat provided for his supper. His incredibly frank observations have proved invaluable in establishing an accurate record of the daily life of the people of London of that period. Pepys eventually stopped keeping the diary due to progressive deterioration of his eyesight, fearing that continuing to write would worsen the condition. He did consider employing an amanuensis to transcribe future entries for him, but worried that the content he wanted written would be too personal. Luckily for Pepys, his eyesight difficulties never progressed to blindness and he was able to go on to become both a Member of Parliament and the President of the Royal Society, but he never resumed his diarism. After Pepys’ death he left his large library of books and manuscripts first to his nephew, which was then passed on to Magdalene College, Cambridge, where it survives to this day. The diary, originally written in a shorthand, was included in this trove and was eventually deciphered in the early 19th century, and published by Lord Baybrooke in 1825. This early release censored large amounts of the text, and it was only in the 1970s that an uncensored version was published. Presented here is the 1893 edition, which restores the majority of the originally censored content but omits “a few passages which cannot possibly be printed.” The rich collection of endnotes serves to further illustrate the lives of the people Pepys meets and the state of internal politics and international relations during the English Restoration. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Book Description
It's curious how one woman can haunt a man... Ten years as a high-stakes jewel thief should have helped me forget Sophie Huntington Ramsey. But no matter how far I traveled, she was never far from my thoughts. Her earthy sensuality. Her wild passion. For ten long years, my memory of our one forbidden night together burned as hot as the encounter itself. The thought of her betrayal with my oldest, dearest friend blazed even hotter. Imagine my surprise when I heard of Sophie's widowhood—and that her husband the Duke of Mulford, named me guardian of her young son! Imagine my shock when I learned that Sophie might have had a hand in her husband's untimely death. It seems that fate has brought Sophie and me together once again. When I return to England to claim my role as guardian, I also vow to win back Sophie's heart. I will slowly seduce her until she is weak with wanting. And when I've had my fill of her, I will expose her as a murderess. Sophie Huntington Ramsey, the Duchess of Mulford, is about to get something she never bargained for... —From the Memoirs of Grant Chandler

Book Description
One frosty winter morning, deep in the vaults of Cox & Co. at Charing Cross, a battered biscuit tin is discovered... Inside are the diaries of that longsuffering resident of 221b Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes' landlady, the unflappable Mrs Hudson. She presents her portrait of life with the great detective and his ever-faithful companion with relish, mustard and no small amount of dropped eaves. Mysterious visitors, disappearances, shouts and bangs - life below stairs at 221b is often silly, slapstick and sentimental in equal measure. These diaries offer an affectionate and hilarious sketch of a remarkably enterprising Victorian female, whose humorous musings encompass talking to the spirit world, dancing with government officials and nights at the music hall. Interspersed with Mrs Hudson's fascinating keepsakes - letters, recipes, calling cards and photos - this is a must-have addition for any Sherlock Holmes aficionado. Behind every great man is an even greater woman ... demanding rent.

Book Description
Two sisters, Zara and Anya, stumble upon their father’s emails with his former lover Mrin, and discover that their old liaison is now encroaching dangerously upon their present lives, and flooding their minds with fear and questions. After reading several messages of love and despair between their father and the ‘perfume woman’ Mrin, the sisters wonder, ‘will this affair destroy their parents’ marriage and their marital bliss?’ One day they find old personal diaries of Mrin with their mother, Somi, and the story turns on its head multiple times. Did Somi know about Mrin, and this hidden aspect of her husband’s life all along? Why is she keeping it a secret? What follows is a topsy-turvy ride from initial hate for the father transferring to the mom, now reviled. The sisters face the question that has gnawed many human beings, ‘Can a man or a woman love two people at the same time with equal passion without feeling guilt and regret?’ The Perfume Woman’s Diaries is a story of star-crossed lovers; of a woman who loved a man all her life, never sure whether he was really with her or with the woman in his memories (to whom she bore more than a striking resemblance). It is a story of love, death, secrets and eventual reconciliation and redemption.
