Book Description
More than forty years ago, Ollie Chandler was only eighteen years old when he was executed on October 18, 1963. In this memoir, Ollie's brother and author W.C. Chandler narrates Ollie's short life story that includes racial discrimination, a miscarriage of justice, and his untimely death. Ollie was one of the fourteen children of John and Leatha Chandler who lived in the rural community of Clyattville, Georgia. Life was not easy for a black family living in the south. And for Ollie, life was even more difficult. Mentally challenged, he wasn't able to finish school. But at age seventeen, Ollie was arrested for a murder he said he didn't commit. His Blood Cries Out for Justice tells the rest of Ollie's story from his time in jail to his trial by an all-white jury and his subsequent death. A moving tribute, His Blood Cries Out for Justice pays homage to this young life that was cut short. It reckons with history while also celebrating one family's deep love and that family's attempt to make sense of a tragedy.

Book Description
John McConnell Jr. was the famed founder and visionary of Earth Day. McConnell's vision was one of creating a day of remembrance, solitude, and action to restore the broken human relationship to the land. Little acknowledged are McConnell's religious convictions or background. McConnell grew up in a Pentecostal home. In fact, McConnell's parents were both founding charter members of the Assemblies of God in 1914. His own grandfather had an even greater connection to the origins of Pentecostalism by being a personal participant at the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906. Earth Day, thus, began with strong religious convictions. McConnell, seeing the ecological demise through his religious background, envisioned a day where Christians could "show the power of prayer, the validity of their charity, and their practical concern for Earth's life and people." In the spirit of McConnell, today's Pentecostal and Charismatic theology has something to say about the earth. Blood Cries Out is a unique contribution by Pentecostal and Charismatic theologians and practitioners to the global conversation concerning ecological degradation, climate change, and ecological justice.

Book Description
Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.

Book Description
Religious terrorism has become the scourge of the modern world. What causes a person to kill innocent strangers in the name of religion? As both a clinical psychologist and an authority on comparative religion, James W. Jones is uniquely qualified to address this increasingly urgent question. Research on the psychology of violence shows that several factors work to make ordinary people turn "evil." These include feelings of humiliation or shame, a tendency to see the world in black and white, and demonization or dehumanization of other people. Authoritarian religion or "fundamentalism," Jones shows, is a particularly rich source of such ideas and feelings, which he finds throughout the writings of Islamic jihadists, such as the 9/11 conspirators.Jones goes on to apply this model to two very different religious groups that have engaged in violence: Aum Shinrikyo, the Buddhist splinter group behind the sarin gas attacks in the Tokyo subway system, and members of the extreme religious right in the U.S. who have advocated and committed violence against abortion providers. Jones notes that not every adherent of an authoritarian group will turn to violence, and he shows how theories of personality development can explain why certain individuals are easily recruited to perform terrorist acts.

Book Description
This book is about hearing the Word of God preached boldly, plainly and faithfully. It is particularly aimed at the Christian sitting in the pew who is required by God to hear the Word of God preached with spiritual profit to their soul. However, many pastors today would also do well to hear the contents of these chapters since their performance allows, or not, the ability for the Christian to accomplish the intended ends when they hear the Word preached. If they are negligent in preaching, the hearer can never do his commanded duty. One might think that a book about “preaching” concerns hermeneutics or exegesis, or more especially, homiletics, and not particularly directed towards the Christian. This work, however, is neither about hermeneutics, or homiletics, per se. It is primarily directed at the Christian hearer, though much will be said about the minister and his pulpit ability. Many good books have dealt with being called to the ministry, or being faithful in study for preaching, or for aid in sermon preparation. Though this work may touch on all these things, and much more, it is really directed at what Christians ought to expect when the minister stands up to preach in the pulpit. If the minister is not fulfilling his office as it should be intended, what is the final result? What should the congregation see, hear and expect in this regard, biblically speaking? Reader, what do you expect?
