Book Description
Previous studies have reported that moths of the Geometridae family are good candidates for determining the effect of forestry practices on moth diversity because of their weak flight ability and high habitat fidelity. This report examines a red spruce forest site in New Brunswick on a plot by plot basis to determine the effect of silvicultural prescriptions on insect diversity as exemplified by the community of Geometridae. The objective was to compare species richness, abundance, diversity statistics, and complementarity of the geometrid fauna of an uncut plot with similar data from plots that had undergone silvicultural prescriptions. Results are presented & compared among plots that were subjected to selection cutting, strip cutting, and clear-cutting.

Book Description
This report describes a study conducted as part of research on biota associated with specific forest successional stages and, in particular, to identify taxa that might be strongly linked to old stands. Lepidoptera were chosen for the study because they serve important roles as herbivores, pollinators, & prey; are easily collected; are sensitive to forest disturbances; and are well enough known taxonomically for their diversity to be assessed. A baseline examination of this assemblage was carried out in a mature stand and an old stand near Lac La Biche, Alberta. Comparisons between the two stands are made with regard to temporal & within-stand variability in moth species composition, variability associated with stand age, & species associated with a particular stand. In addition, the potential for Lepidoptera and its taxonomic sub-groups to serve as biodiversity indicators in the boreal forest was examined.

Book Description
There are thousands of moth species in the northeast of North America, and while it might seem that they are all drab grays and browns, there is actually a startling variety. They come in a rainbow of colors, from brilliant oranges and pinks to soft greens and violets. There are moths with colorful leopard-like spots, and ones that look more like B-movie aliens; some that are as large as your hand, and others the size of a grain of rice. With helpful tips on how to attract and identify moths, range maps and season graphs showing when and where to find each species, and clear photographs that use the unique Peterson arrow system for easy identification, this guide provides everything an amateur or experienced moth-watcher needs. Sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.
