Book Description
There are many ways to tell a story, and after 500 years of the Lutheran family, there are lots of stories to tell. For a movement that is so large and so old, the story of Lutheranism could be told in any number of large and important books. But sometimes, in trying to tell the big story, the smaller stories get lost. There are just so many details that readers can lose track about where they are and what is going on. This book tells the narrative a different way, by focusing on the small stories the stories of Lutheran individuals and groups and events over the course of 500 years. Each one is brief, only about 800 words. But the stories themselves illustrate their particular time and place, and give you, the reader, a sense of how Lutherans lived out their faith in their particular context.

Book Description
Personal narratives are powerful instruments for teaching, both for conveying information and for forming character. The martyrdom accounts preserved in the literature of early Christianity are especially intense and dramatic. However, these narratives are not readily available and are often written in intimidating prose, making them largely inaccessible for the average reader. This introductory text brings together key early Christian martyrdom stories in a single volume, offering new, easy-to-read translations and expert commentary. An introduction and explanatory notes accompany each translation. The book not only provides a vivid window into the world of early Christianity but also offers spiritual encouragement and inspiration for Christian life today.

Book Description
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In this formula that Christians recite as though on autopilot lie the secrets for healing our world, rekindling our visionary imagination, and manifesting the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. It’s an astonishing claim, but one that is supported by Cynthia Bourgeault’s exploration of Trinitarian theology—and by her bold work in further articulating the deep truth it contains. She looks to the ancient concept in light of the ideas of G. I. Gurdjieff and Jacob Boehme to reveal the Trinity as the "hidden driveshaft" within Christianity: the compassionate expression of the Uncreated Reality in creation.

Book Description
Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Troubling questions—so troubling that many have lost their faith because of them. Others only whisper the questions to themselves, fearing or being taught that they might lose their faith and their church if they ask them out loud. But what if these questions trouble us for good reason? What if the story of heaven and hell we have been taught is not, in fact, what the Bible teaches? What if what Jesus meant by heaven, hell, and salvation are very different from how we have come to understand them? What if it is God who wants us to face these questions? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance. The result is the discovery that the "good news" is much, much better than we ever imagined. Love wins.

Book Description
This annotated edition of "Martin Luther's Small Catechism" includes an extra appendix (in addition to the two already included in the original book) which provides an interesting overview of: Martin Luther's peasant roots, his education in pre-law, and how he was diverted from a law career to that of a monk-turned-professor and eventually, Protestant reformer,The role of the printing press in spreading the "95 Theses" quickly over Europe, catapulting Martin Luther to near-instant prominence in the religious dialogue of his day, The story of how Martin Luther colluded with a fishmonger to smuggle his future wife and her friends away from a convent, and Martin Luther's impact on the Protestant Reformation as well as modern religious thought.Martin Luther wrote the small catechism as an easy teaching tool for both individuals and families. Though penned close to five centuries ago, Luther's brief, clear summary of the essentials of Christian faith still ring true today.Topics covered include the Ten Commandments, the "Creed", the Lord's Prayer, and the sacraments of baptism and the altar. Ideas and instructions are also included for morning and evening devotions and giving thanks at mealtime. This little catechism, still widely used within the Lutheran Church, has gems of truth that many Christians will find to be both instructive and inspirational--regardless of denomination. Though few in words, it provides a wonderful explanation that has helped many to both learn the basics of Christian doctrine and apply them in a practical way to their lives.

Book Description
The Small Catechism is an excellent foundation for discussions with new members or so-called pastor's classes for new members and inquirers. It not only contains basic documents like the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed and the Lord's Prayer, but it also has Luther's basic explanation of these, along with explanations of Baptism, confession of sins and the Lord's Supper. The Small Catechism, therefore, serves as an introduction to basic Christianity. The Small Catechism is an ideal vehicle for reviewing our Christian faith. Small groups can make use of it, as can families and individuals wishing to go over again the basics of their faith and to learn how Jesus Christ, and what he did for us, stands at the centre of our faith.
