Book Description
The objects of the American Meteorological Society are "the development and dissemination of knowledge of meteorology in all its phases and applications, and the advancement of its professional ideals." The organization of the Society took place in affiliation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science at Saint Louis, Missouri, December 29, 1919, and its incorporation, at Washington, D. C., January 21, 1920. The work of the Society is carried on by the Bulletin, the Journal, and Meteorological Monographs, by papers and discussions at meetings of the Society, through the offices of the Secretary and the Executive Secretary, and by correspondence. All of the Americas are represented in the membership of the Society as well as many foreign countries.

Book Description
The Florida Area Cumulus Experiment (FACE) has developed as the logical extension of the successful series of single cloud experiments conducted by NOAA's Experimental Meteorology Laboratory (now the Cumulus Group of the National Hurricane and Experimental Meteorology Laboratory) over the Caribbean and Florida. Although the results of FACE studies have been painstakingly reported in the literature, conversations with colleagues have made it obvious that the empirical and theoretical foundations for this experiment are not well understood. Confusion still exists in the minds of some as to the rationale for FACE and its design. The need exists then for a detailed exposition of all aspects of the FACE effort for consideration and discussion by the scientific community. With this report we attempt to fulfill this need.

Book Description
Phase 2 of Project Gulf Q was conducted 4 May through 3 June 1970 at Brownsville, Tex. The objective was to continue the study of the responses of warm cumulus clouds to seeding with ammonium nitrate, urea, and water, which was begun in Phase 1 of the project in May 1969. Thirty-two test cases were studied; 27 were seeded with ammonium nitrate, urea, and water; four were seeded with water alone; and one was unseeded. Statistical evidence was found to indicate that seeding warm cumulus clouds in the early or middle stages of their life cycles with ammonium nitrate, urea, and water causes increase in in-cloud updrafts and downdrafts, cloud water content, and cloud-height growth rates. Evidence was also found of a positive correlation between the amount of ammonium nitrate, urea, and water introduced into the cloud and the increase in liquid water content in the cloud. No correlation was found between seeding level and cloud response. No effect of seeding with water alone could be identified. (Author).
