L'UTILISATION RATIONNELLE DES CODES DE CALCUL PAR ELEMENTS FINIS EN GEOTECHNIQUE SE HEURTE ESSENTIELLEMENT A DEUX DIFFICULTES LIEES D'UNE PART AU CHOIX DU MODELE, ET D'AUTRE PART A LA CARACTERISATION DE SES PARAMETRES. LE TRAVAIL PRESENTE DANS CETTE THESE A POUR OBJECTIF DE METTRE EN PLACE UN OUTIL QUI PERMET DE REDUIRE CES DEUX DIFFICULTES. POUR ATTEINDRE CE BUT, SUR LA BASE DU MODELE CJS, NOUS AVONS DEVELOPPE UN MODELE HIERARCHISE C'EST A DIRE COMPORTANT PLUSIEURS NIVEAUX DE MODELISATION, QUI PERMET DE RENDRE PLUS FACILE ET PLUS EFFICACE LE CHOIX DU MODELE. LE MODELE DEVELOPPE INTEGRE CINQ NIVEAUX DE MODELISATION : CJS1 : MODELE ELASTIQUE-PARFAITEMENT PLASTIQUE, CJS2 : MODELE ELASTOPLASTIQUE AVEC ECROUISSAGE ISOTROPE, CJS3 : MODELE ELASTOPLASTIQUE AVEC ECROUISSAGE CINEMATIQUE, CJS4 : MODELE ELASTOPLASTIQUE AVEC ECROUISSAGE MIXTE, CJS5 : MODELE ELASTOPLASTIQUE-VISCOPLASTIQUE. LE NIVEAU LE PLUS SIMPLE EST LE MODELE CJS1. IL SE COMPARE AU MODELE DE MOHR-COULOMB AVEC DILATANCE. LE DEUXIEME EST UN MODELE ELASTOPLASTIQUE SIMPLE QUI PERMET DE REPRODUIRE FACILEMENT LE COMPORTEMENT NON LINEAIRE DES SOLS POUR DES SOLLICITATIONS MONOTONES. LE TROISIEME NIVEAU PERMET DE MODELISER L'EFFET DE L'ANISOTROPIE INDUITE ET LE COMPORTEMENT CYCLIQUE DES SOLS. LE QUATRIEME NIVEAU EST CONSTRUIT POUR AMELIORER LA REPONSE DE CJS3 SOUS SOLLICITATION CYCLIQUE. ENFIN LE DERNIER MODELE A ETE CONSTRUIT POUR DECRIRE LE COMPORTEMENT VISQUEUX DES SOLS. LE PASSAGE D'UN NIVEAU A UN AUTRE NIVEAUX SE FAIT EN AGISSANT SUR LES PARAMETRES. L'IDENTIFICATION DES PARAMETRES DE DIFFERENTS MODELES SE FAIT A PARTIR DES RESULTATS D'ESSAIS CLASSIQUES EN LABORATOIRE. POUR ENRICHIR L'IDENTIFICATION DES PARAMETRES, DES CORRELATIONS ENTRE CERTAINS PARAMETRES DES MODELES ET LES PARAMETRES PHYSICO-MECANIQUES BIEN CONNUS DES SOLS SONT PRESENTEES. LES VALIDATIONS POUR LES MODELES DE LA PARTIE ELASTOPLASTIQUE (CJS1,2,3,4) SONT FAITES SUR LES CHEMINS HOMOGENES MONOTONES ET CYCLIQUES, EN CONDITION DRAINEE ET NON DRAINEE, ET SUR DES CHEMINS NON HOMOGENES. POUR LA VALIDATION DE CJS5, NOUS AVONS UTILISE DES RESULTATS D'ESSAIS TRIAXIAUX NON DRAINES ET DRAINES.

Book Description
Soft soils present particular challenges to engineers and an understanding of the specific characteristics of these soils is indispensable. Laboratory techniques such as numerical modelling, theoretical analysis and constitutive modelling give new insights into soft soil material behaviour, while large-scale testing in the field provides important information in areas such as slope stability and soft soil improvements. This collection of papers from the Fourth International Conference on Soft Soil Engineering, Vancouver, 2006, presents an international appraisal of current research and new advances in engineering practices, illustrating the theory with relevant case studies. Geotechnical professionals, engineers, academics and researchers working in the areas of soft ground engineering and soft soil engineering will find this a valuable book.

Book Description
Among the most important and exciting current steps forward in geo-engineering is the development of coupled numerical models. They represent the basic physics of geo-engineering processes which can include the effects of heat, water, mechanics and chemistry. Such models provide an integrating focus for the wide range of geo-engineering disciplines. The articles within this volume were originally presented at the inaugural GeoProc conference held in Stockholm and contain a collection of unusually high quality information not available elsewhere in an edited and coherent form. This collection not only benefits from the latest theoretical developments but also applies them to a number of practical and wide ranging applications. Examples include the environmental issues around radioactive waste disposal deep in rock, and the search for new reserves of oil and gas.

Book Description
These proceedings represent the latest advances in the mechanics of porous materials, known as poromechanics. The porous materials considered are solids containing voids that are impregnated with fluid. The focus is on the mechanical interactions of the inhomogeneous solid with the single- or multi-phase fluid under the loading of mechanical force, fluid pressure, thermal, chemical, and magnetic fields. The response time can be in static, diffusional, and dynamic ranges. The length scale can start from nano, to micro, macro, and up to field scales. Its application covers many branches of science and engineering, including geophysics, geomechanics, composite materials, biomechanics, acoustics, seismicity, civil, mechanical, environmental, and petroleum engineering. The approaches taken include analytical, computational, and experimental. To honor the pioneering contributions of Maurice A. Biot (1905-1985) to poromechanics, the Biot Conference on Poromechanics was convened for the first time in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium in 1998. The success of the first conference led to the 2nd Biot Conference held in Grenoble, France in 2002. To celebrate the centennial birthday of Biot (May 25, 2005), the 3rd Biot Conference on Poromechanics was held at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, U.S.A., on May 24-27, 2005.

Book Description
Granular Materials at Meso-scale: Towards a Change of Scale Approach proposes a new way for developing an efficient change of scale—considering a meso-scale defined at the level of local arrays of particles. The change of scale is known to be a very interesting way to improve the modelling of mechanical behavior granular materials. In the past, studies have been proposed using a micro-scale at the grain level to perform change of scale, but limitations have been proven for these approaches. Definition and analysis of the phases are detailed, constituted by sets of meso-domains sharing the same texture characteristics. The authors propose a local constitutive model for the phases, allowing the constitutive model of the representative elementary volume to be definied from a change-of-scale approach and, finally, presenting the validation of obtained modeling on cyclic loadings. - Proposes a new way for developing an efficient change of scale—considering a meso-scale - Explores local meso-domains and texture characteristics - Defines meso-strain and stress - Analyzes the evolution of these variables and texture characteristics in relation to the applied loading
