Dieses Ziel hei t: der Sch ler lernt eine Fremdsprache, um in dieser zu kommunizieren - und dies vor allem m ndlich. So trivial und selbstverst ndlich diese Forderung auf den ersten Blick erscheint, so grenzenlos schwierig erweist sich bei n herem Hinsehen die Einl sbarkeit dieser Forderung. Die Klage, dass die Sch ler/Innen sich "einfach zu wenig kommunikativ verst ndlich machen k nnen" und die Forderung, dass der Fremdsprachenunterricht (FU) dahingehend reformiert werden m sse, sind allerdings nicht neu. Dass die Diskrepanz zwischen Spracherwerb und Sprachverf gung vor allem seine Ursache hat in der Diskrepanz zwischen "classroom-world" und "real world" deutet z.B. Lieber bereits 1986 an. Bei diesen allseits festgestellten scheinbar un berbr ckbareren Unterschieden in der Struktur oder "im Wesen" der Sprachverwendung im und au erhalb des Klassenzimmers erscheint es sinnvoll, die unterschiedlichen Bedingungen von Sprachrealisierungen zu beleuchten. Danach sollen zun chst "konventionelle" Ans tze zur Verst rkung von M ndlichkeit im Klassenzimmer und anschlie end Ans tze im Zusammenhang mit TBL vorgestellt werden.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Didactics - English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, grade: 1.3, language: English, abstract: This thesis aims to examine the intrinsically motivating aspects of task-based language teaching (TBLT) in the EFL classroom. It will be started with communicative language teaching (CLT) as a precursor to TBLT. The theoretical context will be discussed with particular reference to Stephen Krashens' Affective Filter Hypothesis as it has influenced research on motivation in foreign language learning as well as TBLT. After that, the current paradigms of CLT will be presented, focusing on its changes compared to former language teaching methods. Moreover, the terminology of motivation will be addressed by first providing a clear definition and then going on to discuss motivation in foreign language teaching. Although there are countless theories in this particular field, the most important theory for the course of this thesis is the Self-Determination Theory by Ryan and Deci as it first introduced the concepts of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Besides, the teacher and learner roles will be discussed to see how they affect each other's motivation. Furthermore, Dörnyei's motivational strategies for the foreign language classroom will be outlined to show how student motivation can be initiated and maintained. The next chapter introduces the task-based language teaching approach thoroughly explaining the concept of a task in order to grasp its main ideas and differences compared to an exercise. Then the various task types and the role of teacher and learner will be explored to see how they operate in the EFL classroom. Thereafter, Jane Willis' TBL framework will be presented by discussing the aim of each stage in detail. Lastly, a sample lesson designed by Jane Willis will be presented to demonstrate the implementation of TBLT and to scrutinize its impact on student motivation. With regard to the effects of Dyslexia on foreign language learning the topic of orthographies is discussed and various examples for transparent and less transparent orthographies are provided, as several studies have suggested that the transparency of an orthography determines the ease and speed of reading and writing in a language. The orthography of the German and English language are discussed and differences in transparency are pointed out. German, having a rather transparent orthography, i.e. clear-cut grapheme-phoneme correspondences, is easier to adapt to than English, which has a deep orthography with irregular grapheme-phoneme correspondences. The fact that English is an obligatory subject in most curricula makes it essential to find ways to deal with its inconsistency and to design helpful material for both, normally developing and dyslexic students. Several findings about the effects of Dyslexia on foreign language learning are relevant for the foreingn language classroom. Implications for teaching techniques, material and lesson planning are discussed in this paper.
