Small Wells Manual
Author: Ulric P. Gibson
Publisher: The Minerva Group, Inc.
ISBN: 9780894991738
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 172
Book Description
It has been estimated that nearly two-thirds of the one and a half billion people living in the developing countries are without adequate supplies of safe water. The consequences of this deficiency are innumerable episodes of the debilitating and incapacity enteric diseases which annually affect an estimated 500 million people and result in the deaths of as many as 10 million about half of whom are children.Although there are many factors limiting the installation of small water systems, the lack of knowledge in regard to the availability of ground water and effective means of extracting it for use by rural communities is a major element. It is anticipated that this manual will make a major contribution toward filling this need by providing the man in the field, not necessarily an engineer or hydrologist, with the information needed to locate, construct and operate a small well which can provide good quality water in adequate quantities for small communities. The manual was prepared by the Agency for International Development and the University of Minnesota.

Groundwater Resources
Author: S Mandel
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323157823
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 282
Book Description
Groundwater Resources: Investigation and Development is a 13-chapter text that presents in a logical structure the various useful techniques for groundwater investigations. The introductory chapters deal with the general concepts of hydrology, types of aquifers and groundwater environments, and geographic and geologic topographic maps. These topics are followed by considerable chapters on groundwater investigation techniques, including geophysical and geochemical methods, drilling and isotope techniques, exploration, and pumping tests. The advantages and limitations of these techniques are examined. The discussion then shifts to interpretation and utilization of water level measurements and spring flow. The concluding chapters are devoted to determining the three boundaries enclosing the groundwater systems, namely, the fixed, movable, and arbitrary boundaries. These chapters also look into the principles of groundwater balances and groundwater reserves.
