Book Description
Accurate, transparent and verifiable wood supply calculations will inspire the public confidence that is vital to the future of the industry, forest communities and the ecological health of the forest. [...] The Task Force's terms of reference were sufficient in scope to allow a broad ranging examination of issues all the way from the forest to the manufacturing facility to the market. [...] The Department of Highways has formed a committee, which is tentatively being called the 'Weight Advisory Committee" to advise the Department on: 1. applications for changes to the proposed master plan for the future construction and up-grades of highways in Saskatchewan; and 2. the scheduling of the application of new money into those projects. [...] The experience of the forest industry is that the increased cost of complying with the program, together with the payment of 50% of any "savings" to the Department has resulted in only minor savings to industry and little interest in the program. [...] RECOMMENDATION #5: That the Province of Saskatchewan establish a municipal roads committee made up of the Forest Industry, SARM forest belt communities and the Departments of Highways and Transportation, Environment and Industry and Resources and led by the Department of Inter-Governmental Relations in order to develop a comprehensive and consistent roads policy within those municipalities for tra.

Book Description
This is the report of an Ontario council appointed to develop recommendations to ensure a secure future for the province's forest products industry, communities, and workers, in response to crisis conditions in the Ontario forest industry. The report first reviews the current state of the industry and challenges being faced in the global & domestic competitive environments, including the rise in the Canadian dollar, the softwood lumber dispute with the United States, insecurity in wood supply, transportation & energy costs, employment impacts in northern & rural communities, and the local investment climate. It then makes recommendations to remove key barriers to competitiveness in the forest sector in four areas: wood supply, delivered wood costs, energy costs, and the climate for investment.

Book Description
This report represents the views of the members of the task force on ways that government, non-government organizations, and private industry can best promote a healthy environment and economic development within the forestry sector. In addressing the issues, the Task Force met 18 times, reviewed relevant reference material, debated background papers prepared by members, heard presentations from invited speakers, and conducted four public meetings. This document discusses the changes in place and underway and the directions for change in aboriginal issues, biological diversity, decision-making and institutional change, global climate change, harvesting methods, pest management, private land forests, protected areas, pulp and paper industrial effluent, solid waste management, worker protection and involvement, and the economics of both timber for the industry and non-timber forest values.

Book Description
The main objective of this literature review is to summarize policies, including legislation, regulations and guidelines, related to the harvest of woody forest biomass in Canada. The focus of the literature review is on policy that applies to Crown land. The report focusses on policy related to biomass harvesting from logged blocks and roadside debris, rather than purpose-grown plantations, since this is seen as the major new forest biomass energy source, and policy relating to the latter has not been developed in Canada.--Document.
