The report first reviews the current state of the industry and challenges being faced in the global & domestic competitive environments, including the rise in the Canadian dollar, the softwood lumber dispute with the United States, insecurity in wood supply, transportation & energy costs, employment impacts in northern & rural communities, and the local investment climate. It then makes recommendations to remove key barriers to competitiveness in the forest sector in four areas: wood supply, delivered wood costs, energy costs, and the climate for investment.
