Copper has been found in many parts of Alaska, but at present only three regions or districts give promise of mak ing any important contribution to the copper market. These regions are Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska, Prince William Sound, and the Copper River - Chitina River region. The first two regions have produced copper for several years, as their mines are situated near the ocean and enjoy cheaper transportation facili ties, but the interior region is still in the prospecting stage and will remain so till a better and more economical means of handling sup plies and ore is provided.
