By 1900 it had grown to only 750. At the turn of the century the rapid growth and progress of Thomasville began with the advent of the furniture manufacturing industry. By 1910 the population was New enterprises, particularly in the textile field were added, so that by 1920 the city had grown to by 1940 to and by 1950 to Many small enterprises have been started in the past ten years. The city limits have not been extended since 1915. At least people live in the area immediately surround ing the city's incorporated limit of square miles. Fifteen percent of the city's papulation is Negro. Within a radius of 50 miles more than one million people reside.
