Book Description
Microsurgical techniques are widely used in the field of orthopaedics. This book addresses all aspects of orthopaedic microsurgery, from development of the principles to their applications. Replantation of fingers, hands and extremity parts are well summarized by highly experienced microsurgical surgeons. The methods for tissue transplantation and microsurgical reconstruction of tissue defects, which have been proved to be successful tools for saving severely injured extremities, were developed by experienced orthopaedic surgeons in cooperation with plastic surgeons. Injuries to peripheral nerves and the brachial plexus are also discussed extensively in this monograph. All illustrations and tables were meticulously selected and are easy to understand. The book was written for all microsurgeons who work in the fields of orthopaedics, plastic and hand surgery. Guoxian Pei is a professor at the Department of Orthopaedics, Xijing Hospital, the Fourth Military Medical University, Xi An, China.

Book Description
Whoever wishes to adopt microsurgery as a technique within their therapeutic repertoire should know that it demands skills that develop in the microsurgery laboratory. This handbook intends to aid in the acquisition and development of those skills necessary to perform a microsurgical procedure of excellence. Keeping up with the changes observed in educational processes, this guide uses explanatory videos in all the techniques described making the reading of the handbook more dynamic and provides unequaled and detailed descriptions of each technique, through the tips the author offers in the different gestures. The techniques introduced increase in complexity, ranging from artificial models to free flap making in live models. The Handbook begins with simple exercises and leads you through complex practices so that the reader gains the necessary skills and abilities progressively. This handbook is intended for human and animal health professionals of different areas. Therefore, it can be used by veterinarians, dentists and surgeons of different specialties. This paper aims at coping with the lack of teachers in the microsurgery laboratories, which hinders good training, and can be used as reference material for various activities throughout the microsurgical learning process at university or for individual learning.

Book Description
This book aims to introduce the most recent microsurgical techniques and applications in the pattern of illustrative case presentations, including digit replantation, toe-to-hand transplantation, peripheral nerve injuries especially total brachial plexus avulsion injury, surgical flaps. Microsurgery appeared to be a great procedure suitable for more applications. Anatomic research of the blood supply of skin, fascia, nerve, muscle, and bone identified flaps could be carried by pedicle vessels. Transfer of these flaps and revascularization by micro-vascular anastomoses of the arteries and veins set the stages for free flaps. In free flap surgery, single-stage and complex reconstructions could be achieved, which then lead to earlier mobilization and better restoration of function with a shorter hospital stay. Today, microsurgical technique is fully matured, and micro-vascular free tissue transfer is an essential part of reconstructive surgery. Development of microsurgery in China is introduced in the initiation of the current book. Key technical points and experience of replantation, reconstruction, tissue repair, nerve repair and reconstruction, oncological repair and reconstruction cases together with other applications of microsurgery are further demonstrated.

Book Description
On April 23, 1906, Alexis Carrel presented his manuscript entitled "The Surgery of Blood Vessels" to the Johns Hopkins Medical Society. His work on the tech nique of small vessel anastomosis and the transplantation of visceral organs earned him the Nobel Prize in 1912. The use of magnification in operative surgery began in 1921 with the work of Nylen, who first employed the microscope for reconstructive procedures in the middle ear. Jacobson and Suarez published their initial observa tions on the use of microsurgery for the anastomosis of small vessels in 1960, and two years later, Malt reported the historic replantation of an upper extremity. To surgeons involved in reconstruction of the extremities, the evolution of micro surgery has provided the most significant advances of the past three decades. The dramatic clinical successes of replantation surgery and free tissue transfer have substantially improved functional and cosmetic results in addition to decreas ing morbidity in patients who present with complex reconstructive problems. Mi crosurgical Reconstruction of the Extremities crosses the traditional surgical discip lines and will be invaluable to orthopaedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, hand sur geons, and general surgeons, as well as to residents and fellows.
