Book Description
Ships, submarines, amphibious vehicles - functional in 1:87/H0 Models in small scales are particularly fascinating - micromodels on water even more so! In this book, the four authors - most of them already known from other books on the subject of micromodels - present ships, submarines and amphibious vehicles almost completely in 1:87 scale, also known as H0. Of course, they do not limit themselves to the pure driving functions. The models in this book are packed with special functions of all kinds - by the way, many of them can also be used for models in larger scales. The technology presented here makes almost everything possible and the instructions show that a replica is also feasible with normal means. Take up the challenge and put a micro-functional model on the water! From the content • Introduction – a few thoughts in advance • Henry Morgan – a small harbour tugboat to warm up • Little helpers – simple tools with great effect • Arngast – a plastic model learns to dive • Wulf Isebrand – deep drawing technology in miniature • Soldering aid – hole grid board to help with soldering • LED – Handling LEDs in Model Making • DUKW – a ship with wheels • ROV – maximum fun with minimal effort • Calypso – a handy functional model • Hermann Marwede – conversion of a Revell - model in 1/72nd scale • Friesland – a crane ship with play value

Book Description
The need for energy is increasing and but the production from conventional reservoirs is declining quickly. This requires an economically and technically feasible source of energy for the coming years. Among some alternative future energy solutions, the most reasonable source is from unconventional reservoirs. As the name “unconventional” implies, different and challenging approaches are required to characterize and develop these resources. This Special Issue covers some of the technical challenges for developing unconventional energy sources from shale gas/oil, tight gas sand, and coalbed methane.

Book Description
Soil is a fundamental and critical component of terrestrial ecosystems, but one that is often overlooked. It is an extremely complex environment, both in terms of its physical structure and in that it supports levels of biodiversity far greater than those found above ground in any ecosystem. Bringing together existing knowledge across many areas of soil biology and physics, this book develops the concept of soil architecture and explores key characteristics of the remarkable `inner space' of the soil. The authors consider how such structure develops through time and the consequences this has for life underground. They also explore the interactions between the biological and physical components of the soil and how they relate to its many functions, in order to demonstrate the key role of soil architecture in underpinning ecosystem dynamics. The diverse but richly interrelated perspectives offered in this book make it an essential resource for researchers and students in soil and environmental sciences, terrestrial ecology, plant sciences and microbiology.

Book Description
This book contains the keynote presentations, invited speeches, and general session papers presented at the 2nd International Symposium on Asia Urban GeoEngineering, which will be held from 24 November to 27 November 2017 in Changsha, China. The contents will cover the topics of (i) Fundamental behavior and constitutive model of geomaterials, (ii) Excavation and slope engineering, (iii) Tunnel and underground engineering, (iv) Foundation and foundation treatment, (v) Environmental geotechnical engineering, (vi) Numerical methods in geotechnical engineering. It will provide an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences of the analysis, design, construction, and maintenance of urban geoengineering among engineers, researchers, and professors in Asian countries. It will improve our knowledge of requirements of geoengineering for a long-term sustainable urban development and the need to protect and preserve our environment.

Book Description
Volume 77 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry focuses on important aspects of the geochemistry of geological CO2 sequestration. It is in large part an outgrowth of research conducted by members of the U.S. Department of Energy funded Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) known as the Center for Nanoscale Control of Geologic CO2 (NCGC). Eight out of the 15 chapters have been led by team members from the NCGC representing six of the eight partner institutions making up this center - Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (lead institution, D. DePaolo - PI), Oak Ridge National Laboratory, The Ohio State University, the University of California Davis, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Washington University, St. Louis.

Book Description
The great success of the first book on remote-controlled miniature models has encouraged the team of authors around Thorsten Feuchter to build more functional road vehicles in 1:87 scale and to describe their experiences in detail again. Their preference is for functional models such as the heavy-duty tractor with manual gearbox, the wheel loader that can do some proper excavating, and the road sweeper that will make the battery hoover superfluous for model railways in the future. In addition to teaching the basics such as the use of LEDs and muscular wire, this book is particularly concerned with the steering, switching and lighting of H0 vehicles. The solutions presented here require a well-equipped hobby workshop, but some of the projects can also be realised without a lathe or milling machine. Over 140 illustrations and numerous sketches and tables supplement the text.
