Exposure and Risk Assessment of Chemical Pollution - Contemporary Methodology
Author: Mahmoud A. Hassanien
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9048123356
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 538
Book Description
The book contains the contributions at the NATO Study Institute on Exposure and Risk Assessment of Chemical Pollution – Contemporary Methodology, which took place in Sofia – Borovetz, Bulgaria, July 1–10, 2008. Rapid advances in mathematics, computer science and molecular biology and chemistry have lead to the development in of a new branch of toxicology called Computational Toxicology. This emerging field is addressing the estimation and prediction of exposure risk and effects of chemicals based on experimental data, measured concentration and biological mechanisms and computational models of biological systems. Mathematical models are also being used to predict the fate and transport of substances in the environment. Because this area is still in its infancy, there has been limited application from governmental agencies to regulating controllable processes, such as registration of new chemicals, determination of estimated exposure and risk based limits and maximum acceptable concentrations in different compartments of the environment – ambient air, waters, soil and food products. However, this is soon to change as the ability to collect, analyze and interpret the required information is becoming increasingly more efficient and cost effective. Full implementation of the new processes have to involve education on both part of the experimentalists who are generating the data and the models, and the risk assessors who will use them to better protect human health and the environment.

Book Description
The glamorous life of an international flight attendant can be anything but, as Vera Hanson discovered the morning one of her crew members was found murdered in a Paris hotel room. That morning began to put into focus some of the experiences of Vera's thirty year airline career, which she had purposely been avoiding. It caused her to look more deeply into the questions surrounding 9/11 that never made sense to a flight attendant, but that no one had seriously investigated. With the help of her pilot friend Jim Bowman, they embark on a cross country journey employing their wisdom, experience and intense research to uncover the mysteries of what really happened to the four airplanes and the people on them that fateful day. Written as a novel, Methodical Illusion has been excruciatingly researched from an insider's perspective, utilizing proprietary knowledge of airplanes, universal FAA protocols, standardized flight crew procedures and all hijacking policies. The results are the never before revealed answers to the daunting questions everyone has had, but few have dared ask aloud for fear of the repercussions that undoubtedly follow. Rebekah Roth is right on target with her mind blowing research which is guaranteed to open your eyes.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT BY COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY FOR PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU)
Author: Edenilson Brandl
Publisher: Edenilson Brandl
ISBN:
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 1030
Book Description
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare but impactful metabolic condition that profoundly affects those diagnosed, as well as their families and support systems. Living with PKU presents both medical and psychological challenges, often leading to feelings of isolation, stress, and anxiety about the future. Managing the lifelong dietary restrictions and the uncertainties that come with a genetic disorder can be overwhelming, especially when compounded by societal pressures, stigma, and the complexities of medical care. This book, Psychological Support by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Phenylketonuria (PKU), aims to bridge the gap between the medical management of PKU and the psychological support that is crucial for living a fulfilling life with the condition. While medical treatment focuses on controlling phenylalanine levels, this book addresses the emotional, psychological, and cognitive challenges that often go unspoken but deeply affect quality of life. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—a proven approach to managing various psychological issues—this book provides tools, strategies, and insights specifically tailored to individuals with PKU. It is designed to help patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals navigate the psychological impact of PKU, offering ways to manage stress, anxiety, trauma, and the myriad of emotional challenges that arise from living with a chronic genetic condition. We start by exploring the biology of PKU and providing foundational knowledge on genetics, epigenetics, and hereditary diseases. From there, the focus shifts to the psychological aspects, diving deep into how trauma, anxiety, and stress can influence the mental well-being of those with PKU. The latter sections of the book are dedicated to practical applications of CBT, offering a range of tools and techniques designed to empower individuals in managing their emotions, improving mental health, and maintaining a balanced, healthy outlook on life. It is my hope that this book will provide comfort, understanding, and practical support to those living with PKU. By integrating the science of genetics with the art of psychological therapy, we can begin to build a more holistic approach to care—one that nurtures both body and mind. I sincerely hope this book becomes a valuable resource for individuals and families affected by PKU, as well as for healthcare providers seeking to offer more comprehensive support to their patients.
