L’apparition du virus du Sida et ses terribles conséquences ont généré une prise de conscience en ce qui concerne l’asepsie chez les professionnels de la santé, en particulier en chirurgie dentaire. Or. compte-tenu du risque élevé de transmission d’autres virus, tel que l’hépatite B. il convient d’étendre la pratique de l’asepsie à toutes les disciplines de l'art dentaire, y compris la prothèse, trop souvent oubliée. Après avoir énoncé les modes de contamination et les principaux virus susceptibles d’être transmis au cabinet dentaire, les mesures générales de prévention de la contamination sont décrites : des plus classiques (gains, masques, lunettes...) aux plus récentes telles que le gant virucide,Les possibilités de contamination par le biais des instruments et matériaux utilisés en prothèse (turbines, instruments de polissage, maténaux à empreinte...) sont ensuite analysées, avec les moyens de les éviter. Enfin, des mesures faciles à mettre en oeuvre sont proposées poux faciliter la pratique de l’asepsie au cabinet dentaire.

@Il existe dans l’environnement du cabinet dentaire et autour de l’unit dentaire différentes sources de contamination. Elles sont représentées par le praticien, son personnel, le patient, l’eau provenant de l’unit dentaire et l’air. L’eau constitue un élément essentiel dans la réalisation des soins dentaires. La concentration bactérienne de l’eau contenue dans les units dentaires est supérieure à celle du réseau de distribution d’eau potable dont elle est issue. Ces microorganismes proviennent essentiellement du biofilm qui se forme à l’intérieur des conduits d’eau des units dentaires. L’activité au fauteuil va générer plusieurs voies de dissémination des germes pathogènes et donc divers types de transmission. L’utilisation de l’instrumentation dynamique va précipiter dans l’air un grand nombre de micro-organismes. La formation des bioaérosols aura pour conséquence directe un risque pour le personnel soignant et les patients mais aussi comme conséquence indirecte le développement d’un biofilm multi-bactérien sur une surface inerte. Les mains vont donc jouer un rôle primordial dans la chaîne de transmission des germes et par conséquent dans la propagation des infections. La contamination de l’eau des units dentaires représente un risque pour le patient, le praticien et le personnel. Le chirurgien dentiste et son personnel ont le devoir et l’obligation d’appliquer toutes les mesures d’hygiène nécessaires pour prévenir la transmission des infections. Différents moyens de lutte contre les agents infectieux sont à la disposition des professionnels de santé pour éviter le risque de contamination au cabinet dentaire.

In combating global warming and other environmental issues over the use of fossil fuels, extensive research has been focusing on developing hydrogen production from biological processes. Biohydrogen is considered a promising future biofuel because of its intrinsic clean and high-energy content properties and the way it is produced. In addition to being produced through environmentally friendly biological means, its conversion to energy yields only pure water, which is an ideal energy carrier in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel combustion. Unlike other well-developed biofuels such as bioethanol and biodiesel, biohydrogen production is still in the early stage of development. A variety of technologies are being developed for biohydrogen production. This chapter presents a review of the state-of-the-art and perspectives of bioprocess design for biohydrogen production research in the context of pathways, microorganisms, metabolic flux analysis, process design, and reactor system. Challenges and prospects of biohydrogen production are also outlined.
