On June 1, 1918. he was commissioned second-lieutenant, and in August of that year was promoted to captain. A little later he was appointed camp adjutant, and on June 1, 1919, was promoted to major. He was stationed at Trieste, on the allied re-adjustment board, and was mustered out of service October 23, 1919, and received his honorable discharge with the rank of major. He then returned to Cincinnati, where he is now acting as president of the Ex-service Men's Co-operate Association. On June 20, 1918, Major Long was united in marriage with Miss Amelia Herrmann, of Cincinnati, a daughter of Frank and Carrie Herrmann, and they reside at 2207 Rice street, Cincinnati. Horatio L. Buckingham, a farmer of Camp Dennison, Ohio, was born in Symmes township, Hamilton county, Ohio, April 26, 1868, son of Albert G. and Jennie (Doyle) Buckingham, the former of whom was born in the same township as his son, and the latter at Columbus, Ohio. The Buckinghams, as the name implies, are of English origin, and trace their name to an important English county, a dukedom, and Buckingham palace. The name is a place name, having been spelled Buck or Buch-ing-field or ham, meaning "little village." The Buckinghams immigrated to the United States in 1637, and settled in Pennsylvania. They have had their share of able and successful men: governors of states, lawyers and orators, but they have with few exceptions, during the past four generations, devoted themselves to agriculture on the tracts of land purchase by the first members of the family. Enoch Jeffries Buckingham and his brother, Levi, came to Ohio in 1790, and were located for a time at Columbia....

Book Description
A Longhouse Fragmented is a historic ethnography of the Ohio Iroquois and, in particular, of the people known as the Seneca of Sandusky during the early nineteenth century. Using contemporary social theory and interdisciplinary methodologies, Brian Joseph Gilley tells the social history of the Native peoples of Ohio before and during the sociopolitical buildup to removal. As culturally, geographically, and socially displaced Iroquois, the Sandusky Iroquois were fragmented away from American historiographical constructions of Iroquois social history by the American Indian academic establishment. This fragmentation makes the early cultural history of the Ohio Iroquois an ideal foil through which to consider how normalized interpretations of social history come to appear real and have real effects for the subject societies well into the twentieth century. These stories are intended to begin an overdue conversation about the effects of a unified Iroquois history congealed around highly specific categories of knowledge.
