Book Description
Imaginary friend Budo narrates this heartwarming story of love, loyalty, and the power of the imagination—the perfect read for anyone who has ever had a friend . . . real or otherwise Budo is lucky as imaginary friends go. He's been alive for more than five years, which is positively ancient in the world of imaginary friends. But Budo feels his age, and thinks constantly of the day when eight-year-old Max Delaney will stop believing in him. When that happens, Budo will disappear. Max is different from other children. Some people say that he has Asperger's Syndrome, but most just say he's "on the spectrum." None of this matters to Budo, who loves Max and is charged with protecting him from the class bully, from awkward situations in the cafeteria, and even in the bathroom stalls. But he can't protect Max from Mrs. Patterson, the woman who works with Max in the Learning Center and who believes that she alone is qualified to care for this young boy. When Mrs. Patterson does the unthinkable and kidnaps Max, it is up to Budo and a team of imaginary friends to save him—and Budo must ultimately decide which is more important: Max's happiness or Budo's very existence. Narrated by Budo, a character with a unique ability to have a foot in many worlds—imaginary, real, child, and adult— Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend touches on the truths of life, love, and friendship as it races to a heartwarming . . . and heartbreaking conclusion.

Book Description
One Trip Too Many, A Pilot's Memoirs of 38 Months in Combat over Laos and Vietnam, is an autobiography about my life as a pilot in Southeast Asia during the conflict in Vietnam. It is primarily a story to share with family and friends about my personal involvement in the conflict and the turbulent decade of the 60s and does not attempt to question the politics of the era. It begins with a brief description of my quest to gain admittance to the United States Air Force Academy, my four years at the Academy, and the subsequent year of pilot training. I flew three different types of aircraft in combat and the book provides insight into the training that took place for the C-130 Hercules, the F-105 Thunderchief, and the A-1 Skyraider. Each of the three tours in combat over Laos and Vietnam is described with emphasis on the more memorable flights including a bailout in the A-1 and the final crash on takeoff that ended my active duty Air Force career. My time in various hospitals is described at the end of the book and the epilogue tells briefly of my life after retirement from the United States Air Force. The book has been described as a combination of Band of Brothers, Top Gun, and Forrest Gump.

Book Description
"What at first glance, for Nobelist White, reads like a romp--broadly comic and seemingly flyweight--is yet a book quite consistent with the theme of personal transubstantiation that has involved the author in other, more serious modes (The Twyborn Affair). Alex Gray is an old woman and old friend of Patrick White. She has had--in vivid fantasy if not in fact--an extraordinary life, liberally soaked in reincarnation. She's been a Greek Orthodox nun; an internationally scandalous "character"; she's going on a theatrical tour of the Australian outback as an Isadora Duncan-ish interpretrix; she's involved in a London avant-garde theater troop (funny); she befriends and then kidnaps a bum from the park, believing him to be the Messiah. And all these scenes she records tersely but colorfully in a notebook--a literary property that one day will be handled by her executor, Patrick White. Except that White seems to be in league with Alex's drab and beleaguered spinster daughter Hilda in regretfully coming to the opinion that Alex has flipped her wig. Alex, however, knows better: "According to the vision of myself in the glass I could not be dismissed as a geriatric nut. Certainly ravaged, I still radiated the strength of will of those who are being saved up for some final scene in the terrifying theatre of life. You couldn't refer to 'death,' as Hilda and Patrick might if they dared abandon their bourgeois discretion"--which oh so subtly seems to deliver a lampooned White self-portrait--a prig, scribbling in a desperate attempt to justify his staleness--that in fact is a sly explanation of the ideas of multifariousness White's been working out in his latest endeavors. Seeming fluff--but look again (and as always savor the startling twists of White's style)."--Kirkus
