Book Description
Excerpt from Meditations and Devotions of the Late Cardinal Newman But there are not the materials for such a book. All, then, that has been possible towards carrying out the Cardinal's intention has been to put together such papers as, from what was said by the Cardinal, are considered as likely to have come within the corn 'pass of the contemplated volume. It is 'hoped that 'this will gratify many of the late Cardinal's friends, some of whom have expressed a strong desire to have some examples of his devotions, or to know the de votions which most attracted him, and which they might make their own. the Meditations on Chris tian Doctrine would probably have been more nu merous, but that the.cardinal destroyed many such writings of his upon the death of his great friend Father St. 'john, to whose discretion he had intended to commit them. There are-here included, therefore, it is believed, nearly all of the Cardinal's devotional papers which are likely to be forthcoming. That the papers can be presented at all, especially the majority of the Meditations, is owing, it is be 'lieved, to the Circumstances which accompanied their origin. It was the Cardinal's custom to note down, 'in the roughest way, any thought that particularly struck him while meditating, that he might reflect upon it during the day or pursue it in the future. Seeking God with Saint John Henry Newman
Author: Ryan J. Marr
Publisher: Our Sunday Visitor
ISBN: 1681925931
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 132
Book Description
Often, we don't seem to realize how precious time is until it's gone. We need someone to remind us that we are made for more than this world offers. We're meant for the greatness of sanctity, and we need help to get there. The saints who have gone before us can provide the spiritual support we need. During his life, Saint John Henry Newman's letters and sermons testified to the far-reaching impact of his priestly ministry. And today Newman's thoughts on the Christian life still hold enduring wisdom for each of us. Newman adopted two mottoes as guiding principles in his life: "Life is for action" and "Holiness before peace." He encourages each of us to step forward in faith so that we can accomplish great things and embrace with courage the challenges of living the Christian life in a post-Christian world. Seeking God with Saint John Henry Newman is an invitation to receive spiritual counsel from one of the towering intellectuals of the nineteenth century. Newman's practical guidance, distilled for the reader by Newman scholar Bud Marr, provides wisdom on prayer, penance, and the path to heaven.

Author: Francesca Aran Murphy
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 163087194X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 299
Book Description
For thirty years, Stratford Caldecott has been an inspirational figure in liturgy, fantasy literature, graphic novels, spirituality, education, ecology and social theory. Hundreds of people have learned from his spiritual approaches to the great existential questions. The Beauty of God's House is a Festschrift dedicated to him. The book seeks to cover the whole range of Caldecott's interests, from poetics to politics. Anyone interested in the field of theology and the arts will find much to intrigue them in this delightful multi-authored volume. The common core of Stratford's interests is in the beauty of the cosmos and how it reflects the beauty of God. This book is about the beauty of God's "realm," and it conceives God's realm as the arts, politics, liturgy, religions, and human life. It touches on the many places where beauty and spirituality overlap. It is an engagement in theological aesthetics that goes well beyond the "aesthetic."

ISBN: 1950784827
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 118
Book Description
Do you feel like you can’t “find God”? What if he is waiting for you right where you are? In this intimate and down-to-earth book, Danielle Bean encourages women of all stages of life to slow down and experience the little whispers of God that are present in their everyday moments. Danielle writes about real, heartfelt moments that every woman can relate to. The constant striving after achieving more can be relieved. Even more, the ability to do less with more intention can provide a growing awareness of God’s constant presence and interior peace (even if the exterior is still chaotic). Whisper is perfect for anyone looking to develop a more intimate relationship with the ever-present God. Grab a copy and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine) and dive in to learn from Danielle how to grow closer to God. “Danielle Bean has done it again! Whisper: Finding God in the Everyday is an invitation to be everyday mystics, finding extraordinary encounters with God in our ordinary days. If we will be attentive, there is space for grace to speak to our hearts, leading us closer to our Lord, even as we care for the many needs we encounter in the vocation of marriage and family life.” –Kimberly Hahn, wife, mother, author of Chosen and Cherished: Biblical Wisdom for Your Marriage “She had me at the title, but throughout Danielle’s book Whisper, I found God in baseball, broken pieces, and in ‘not overthinking it.’ This book is beautiful and intimate, itself a whisper from God.” –Sonja Corbitt, creator of LOVE the Word®️ Bible study method “Danielle’s encouragement and practical advice to simply rest and be still was exactly what I needed to read as a young mom who is a recovering busy perfectionist—and the words we all need to hear in a world that emphasizes doing instead of simply being. If you’re exhausted and looking for rest, this book is for you!” –Chloe Langr, author of Letters to Women: Embracing the Feminine Genius in Everyday Life
