All of our lives we have heard marijuana is bad for us, the first step to drug addiction and life as a slacker, but it just isn't true! Over the last 75 years the Federal government has done its best to discredit a natural medicine that has been used around the world for centuries. In 2009, the American Medical Association officially endorsed the medical value of cannabis and 14 states have legalized medical use with more legislation pending. Marijuana 101
Author: Professor Lee
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781931160773
Category : Cannabis
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Unlike the vast majority of other grow books, Marijuana 101 reads like an informal study guide for an "Introduction to Growing" course run by a professor who had a successful grow for a decade. Professor Lee involves his readers and helps them over each potential stumbling block, with constant reference to his own experience, giving the book the personal touch similar guides lack. Lee discusses what to think about before even choosing to grow, how to keep it secret, and how to keep it cheap. He also covers what to buy and where, how to make sense of the myriad of equipment, and the merits of different grow techniques. There's even basic bud history and theory, including how to identify strains and understand the fundamental needs of the precious plants. The benefits of hydroponics, the pros and cons of different soils, and how to breed individual strains are all discussed, but the focus is always the same -- ending up with a successful indoor grow.

The Science of Medical Cannabis
Author: David S. Younger
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781536145663
Category : Marijuana
Languages : en
Pages : 144
Book Description
The cultural, scientific and legislative divide created by vigorous debates over the legalization of medical marijuana is giving way to a new synergy among community stakeholders across the United States. The goal is to improve access to medical marijuana for patients with refractory debilitating neurological disorders, cancer, and chronic pain as an alternative to ineffective pharmacotherapy and potentially addictive pain medications. The ultimate test of our nations resolve to ensure the welfare of our sickest patients is the enactment and implement of effective public health reform in the area of medical marijuana, also known as medical cannabis. This book evolved out of the present need for a definitive volume on the science and public health aspects of medical cannabis to fuel this national narrative. The ethnographic research presented in the concluding chapter was inspired by Professor Miriam W. Boeri and colleagues, at Bentley University in Waltham, MA. They examined views of community stakeholders including medical marijuana dispensary entrepreneurs, health care professionals, and patients in a state that legalized medical marijuana in 2013, yet there continued to be confusion and misunderstandings in the interpretation and implementation of medical marijuana guidelines during the period of policy shifts. Apparent gaps in policy development and implementation signaled the urgency for a comparison study addressing stakeholder views in New York State, where its medical marijuana program has legally dispensed the drug since 2014. The resulting pilot study was carried out in the Division of Health Policy and Management of the City University of New York School of Public Health. The research model incorporated ethnographic and grounded methodologies to detail the views of physicians, pharmacists, educators, patients, and entrepreneur stakeholders; with triangulation of data and application of dominant themes into a socioecological framework model to identify areas of public health policy reform. The findings of this study detail that New York, like other states that recently legalized the dispensation of medical marijuana, faces challenges beyond policy transparency, communication and education explicitly to improve the implementation process for applying and registering medical cannabis dispensaries, referring physicians, and qualified patient recipients.Ken Langone, Chairman of the Board of New York University Langone Health, and Steven Galetta, Chair of Neurology in the School of Medicine, where the authors is senior staff in neuroepidemiology, motivated him to pursue doctoral training in Health Policy and Management. The author has had the good fortune of interacting with thought-provoking medical students, neurology trainees, public health doctoral students, and professors who reinforce the high ethical standards in medical and public health practice and research. However, his patients still educate him in empathy and humanity. The author is grateful to his family, including his spouse Holly and sons Adam and Seth, who serve as his daily compass, encouraging him to take on projects that promote core values of medicine and humanity.

Marijuana and Medicine
Author: Institute of Medicine
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309071550
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 288
Book Description
The medical use of marijuana is surrounded by a cloud of social, political, and religious controversy, which obscures the facts that should be considered in the debate. This book summarizes what we know about marijuana from evidence-based medicineâ€"the harm it may do and the relief it may bring to patients. The book helps the reader understand not only what science has to say about medical marijuana but also the logic behind the scientific conclusions. Marijuana and Medicine addresses the science base and the therapeutic effects of marijuana use for medical conditions such as glaucoma and multiple sclerosis. It covers marijuana's mechanism of action, acute and chronic effects on health and behavior, potential adverse effects, efficacy of different delivery systems, analysis of the data about marijuana as a gateway drug, and the prospects for developing cannabinoid drugs. The book evaluates how well marijuana meets accepted standards for medicine and considers the conclusions of other blue-ribbon panels. Full of useful facts, this volume will be important to anyone interested in informed debate about the medical use of marijuana: advocates and opponents as well as policymakers, regulators, and health care providers.

Cannabis Laboratory Fundamentals
Author: Shaun R. Opie
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030627160
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 330
Book Description
The legislative requirement for cannabis to undergo laboratory testing has followed legalization of medical and recreational use in every U.S. state to date. Cannabis safety testing is a new investment opportunity within the emerging cannabis market that is separate from cultivation, processing, and distribution, allowing individuals and organizations who may have been reluctant to enter previously a new entry route to the cannabis space. However, many of the costs, timelines, operational requirements, and compliance issues are overlooked by people who have not been exposed to regulated laboratory testing. Cannabis Laboratory Fundamentals provides an in-depth review of the key issues that impact cannabis testing laboratories and provides recommendations and solutions to avoid common – but expensive – mistakes. The text goes beyond methodology to include sections on economics, regulation, and operational challenges, making it useful for both new and experienced cannabis laboratory operators, as well as all those who want to understand the opportunities and risks of this industry.

Aunt Sandy's Medical Marijuana Cookbook
Author: Sandy Moriarty
Publisher: Quick Trading Company
ISBN: 1936807092
Category : Cooking
Languages : en
Pages : 126
Book Description
Medical edibles have come a long way since the infamous pot brownies that were consumed with crunchy, awful-tasting leaves and stems. Aunt Sandy’s Medical Marijuana Cookbook is a collection of recipes by cooking instructor, Sandy Moriarty, who is a professor at Oaksterdam University in Oakland Ca. Oaksterdam University has pioneered training for jobs in the booming marijuana industry. The cookbook is retro in design and content, reminiscent of classic Betty Crocker-type comfort foods. Some of Sandy’s favorites include mac and cheese, spicy buffalo wings, and scalloped potatoes. The book visually demonstrates and reveals the process for creating Sandy’s 10x Cannabutter. It includes 40 easy-to-prepare, delicious dishes from her signature dessert, Blue Sky Lemon Bars, to the Dizzy Bird Turkey with Stuffing for a festive holiday dinner. The book updates some of the classics with low-calorie, vegetarian, vegan, sugar-free and gluten-free options. Each individual’s potency level is different. The author teaches how potency can be adjusted by the amount of plant material used in the butter, oil or tincture. The American Medical Association has now recognized the medical value of marijuana and the federal government has provided medical marijuana to selected medical patients for many years.
