Book Description
"One of the difficulties that arise in teaching mathematics is related to the identification of the target and the most appropriate teaching methods for the people who are part of it. This aspect, true for all disciplines, applies to mathematics in particular. In fact, for example, an axiomatic approach is certainly suitable for Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, while students of many applied sciences, such as Agricultural and Life Sciences, need to focus on calculation tools and methodologies useful for their professional development rather than in dealing with the theoretical foundations of mathematics. The peculiarity of this book is not so much in setting classical approach "Theorem: Hypothesis, Thesis" with relative proofs, but in adopting a more pragmatic approach that renounce classical demonstrations, while maintaining a formal coherence in the topics dealt with. In this perspective, considering the approach required by the target to which it is addressed, the objective of this book is to provide methods to studying the variation of a phenomenon and its cumulative effects and consequently the study of the functions and the calculation of integrals respectively. One of the qualifying features is given by a series of completely resolved problems, occupying two-thirds of the volume, in which each mathematical step is detailed to understand "step by step" how to obtain the solution"--

Book Description
As the public and producers becomes more aware of the environmental and economic benefits of precision farming, there has been increased demand for quality training to accurately evaluate spatial variability within fields. Practical Mathematics in Precision Farming provides hand-on training and examples for certified crop consultants (CCAs), farmers, crop consultants, and students (both undergraduate and graduate) on how to conduct to conduct and analyze on-farm studies, write simple programs, use precision techniques to scout for pests and collect soil samples, develop management zones, determine the cost of production, assess the environmental consequences of precision techniques, understand soil test results, and develop site-specific nutrient and plant population algorithms. Using real agronomic examples, the reader is taught the crucial task of managing products and inputs for application at the right rate, place, and time.

Book Description
This textbook teaches crucial statistical methods to answer research questions using a unique range of statistical software programs, including MINITAB and R. This textbook is developed for undergraduate students in agriculture, nursing, biology and biomedical research. Graduate students will also find it to be a useful way to refresh their statistics skills and to reference software options. The unique combination of examples is approached using MINITAB and R for their individual strengths. Subjects covered include among others data description, probability distributions, experimental design, regression analysis, randomized design and biological assay. Unlike other biostatistics textbooks, this text also includes outliers, influential observations in regression and an introduction to survival analysis. Material is taken from the author's extensive teaching and research in Africa, USA and the UK. Sample problems, references and electronic supplementary material accompany each chapter.

Book Description
This book offers an outstanding algebra review, detailed coverage of finite mathematics — and sound treatment of both differential and integral calculus. This edition offers thorough coverage of the graphing calculator and computer through optional exercises and supplements. The largest, most varied selection of applications available will convince even the most skeptical reader that mathematics is useful. There are over 300 worked examples included, presented in example-solution-matched problem format to encourage active learning. The book includes over 3,800 carefully selected and accurate problems divided into A, B, and C level of difficulty. Carefully selected and organized topics are structured to provide maximum flexibility in selection of material, with a Chapter Dependency Chart included in the Preface. Added optional graphics calculator and computer exercises give the reader excellent hands-on practice. Revised topical coverage includes the review of basic set theory, expanded coverage of counting techniques — now including sets and Venn diagrams — is presented in two sections as opposed to one, rewritten and expanded section on factoring polynomials now includes applications of the quadratic formula to factoring second-degree polynomials, and material on inverse matrices and systems of equations is now presented in two sections.

Book Description
Agriculture to Zoology: Information Literacy in the Life Sciences sets the stage for purposefully integrating information literacy activities within the subject-specific content of the life sciences. The book is written for librarians and other professionals who teach information literacy skills, especially those in the science disciplines, and most especially the life sciences. It is also intended to be helpful to secondary school teachers, college faculty who teach life science-related subjects, library school students, and others interested in information literacy and science education. Anyone wanting to learn more about the Earth's life sciences, from citizen to scientist, will benefit as well. The book's seven chapters fill a gap with varying perspectives of literacy instruction in the life sciences and include resources identified by academic librarians as important for use in subject-specific research in higher education. Contributors are longtime specialists in the fields of the life sciences, science and information literacy, scientific and electronic communication, assessment, and more, including Arctic and Antarctic information. - Specialized focus on information literacy in the life science disciplines, rather than information literacy in general - Discussion of library instruction, featuring methods, tools, and assignments to engage students in different areas of the life sciences - Chapters on specific life science subjects highlight traditional as well as non-traditional sources
