Book Description
These "math cycles" present third and fourth grade math concepts in spiral fashion so that the concepts are first introduced, then reinforced, and finally extended. Each cycle comprises 12 problems on two reproducible worksheets, and the book provides 30 cycles appropriate for grade three and 30 more for grade four. Since the subject matter of each cycle targets one of the standards recommended by the National Council for Teachers of Math, the activities make excellent homework assignments. Six reproducible quizzes allow teachers to assess overall progress. Grades 3-4. Answer key. Illustrated. Good Year Books. 220 pages.

Book Description
From the June 1998 Summer School come 20 contributions that explore algebraic cycles (a subfield of algebraic geometry) from a variety of perspectives. The papers have been organized into sections on cohomological methods, Chow groups and motives, and arithmetic methods. Some specific topics include logarithmic Hodge structures and classifying spaces; Bloch's conjecture and the K-theory of projective surfaces; and torsion zero-cycles and the Abel-Jacobi map over the real numbers.

Book Description
Spencer Bloch's 1979 Duke lectures, a milestone in modern mathematics, have been out of print almost since their first publication in 1980, yet they have remained influential and are still the best place to learn the guiding philosophy of algebraic cycles and motives. This edition, now professionally typeset, has a new preface by the author giving his perspective on developments in the field over the past 30 years. The theory of algebraic cycles encompasses such central problems in mathematics as the Hodge conjecture and the Bloch–Kato conjecture on special values of zeta functions. The book begins with Mumford's example showing that the Chow group of zero-cycles on an algebraic variety can be infinite-dimensional, and explains how Hodge theory and algebraic K-theory give new insights into this and other phenomena.

Book Description
From Nobel prize-winner Roger Penrose, this groundbreaking book is for anyone "who is interested in the world, how it works, and how it got here" (New York Journal of Books). Penrose presents a new perspective on three of cosmology’s essential questions: What came before the Big Bang? What is the source of order in our universe? And what cosmic future awaits us? He shows how the expected fate of our ever-accelerating and expanding universe—heat death or ultimate entropy—can actually be reinterpreted as the conditions that will begin a new “Big Bang.” He details the basic principles beneath our universe, explaining various standard and non-standard cosmological models, the fundamental role of the cosmic microwave background, the paramount significance of black holes, and other basic building blocks of contemporary physics. Intellectually thrilling and widely accessible, Cycles of Time is a welcome new contribution to our understanding of the universe from one of our greatest mathematicians and thinkers.

Book Description
The method of using the moduli space of pseudo-holomorphic curves on a symplectic manifold was introduced by Mikhail Gromov in 1985. From the appearance of Gromov's original paper until today this approach has been the most important tool in global symplectic geometry. To produce numerical invariants of these manifolds using this method requires constructing a fundamental cycle associated with moduli spaces. This volume brings together three approaches to constructing the “virtual” fundamental cycle for the moduli space of pseudo-holomorphic curves. All approaches are based on the idea of local Kuranishi charts for the moduli space. Workers in the field will get a comprehensive understanding of the details of these constructions and the assumptions under which they can be made. These techniques and results will be essential in further applications of this approach to producing invariants of symplectic manifolds.

Book Description
Spencer J. Bloch has, and continues to have, a profound influence on the subject of Algebraic $K$-Theory, Cycles and Motives. This book, which is comprised of a number of independent research articles written by leading experts in the field, is dedicated in his honour, and gives a snapshot of the current and evolving nature of the subject. Some of the articles are written in an expository style, providing a perspective on the current state of the subject to those wishing to learn more about it. Others are more technical, representing new developments and making them especially interesting to researchers for keeping abreast of recent progress.

Book Description
The subject of algebraic cycles has its roots in the study of divisors, extending as far back as the nineteenth century. Since then, and in particular in recent years, algebraic cycles have made a significant impact on many fields of mathematics, among them number theory, algebraic geometry, and mathematical physics. The present volume contains articles on all of the above aspects of algebraic cycles. It also contains a mixture of both research papers and expository articles, so that it would be of interest to both experts and beginners in the field.
